MY HARROD/(DUVALL) INFORMATION
AND MIGRATION: KY>IN>KS>OK>KS

RUMOR SAYS: Moses HARROD & Mary Jane (DUVALL)
eloped & headed "west" from KY in a covered wagon.

Very Interesting!
I have 2 Marriages, in 2 States, for
2 Harrod Men marrying 2 Duvall Women, 2 times!!
The 2 records indicate it is THE SAME 2 COUPLES!

This would support the eloping theory.
Perhaps the "Home Town Marriages" of
these couples were not approved of?
In any event, it appears the couples married
1st; Franklin Co., KY Nov 1855
2nd; Clark Co., IND Nov 1855.

Here are the details of the marriages....

FRANKLIN COUNTY, KY Marriages-1855

*Celesia, 4/12, f, w, b IN
(Same name as the wife of Francis Asbury DUVALL)

Next, this (DUVALL)/HARROD family moves to Kansas.
See the Moses HARROD page for more KS Census and
residence details, including Farm Census.

After residing in KS for many years, this family
moves on to Oklahoma, first in Guthrie, Logan Co.
Again, please see Moses HARROD page for OK details.

There, an 1896 Marriage Record of Ida E. (Harrod)
provides her mother was Mary J. (DUVALL) and
her father was Moses HARROD. Witness to this
marriage was Ida's younger brother, John HARROD.

NOTES/RESEARCH IN PROGRESS:
*I need to determine Mary Jane DUVALL's parents.

Below is mostly information on Cornelius DUVALL
who also had a daughter named Mary Jane (DUVALL).

Other researchers have pointed me in the direction
of Francis Asbury DUVALL as father of my Mary Jane.
*However, I am lacking documentation and proof.

However, the wife of Francis Asbury DUVALL
was named Celesia/Celecia. My Mary Jane (DUVALL)
and Moses HARROD, named their second daughter
Celesia Elizabeth and called her "Lizzie".

The mother and sister of Moses HARROD were
also named Elizabeth. I am hopeful!

*I am searching for the graves of Moses HARROD
and Mary Jane (DUVALL) HARROD, most likely in OK.
Per Probate Record, Mary Jane was still alive on
October 23, 1897 and Moses HARROD was deceased.
Moses HARROD died after 1890, but before 10-23-1897.

MISC DUVALL INFORMATION
AND
QUOTES; MAUREEN DUVALL OF MIDDLE PLANTATION

1850 Owen Co., KY census p. 201
Dornelius DUVALL, 57
Polly 50,
Preston, 26,
George, 14,
MARY 13

The 1850 census lists him as a farmer in Owen Co.,
KY, with realty appraised at $600. At home were
Preston aged 24, George aged 14, and Mary aged 13.

I believe "Dornelius" is a mistranscription of
"Cornelius". There are many references to Cornelius
DUVALL 1839-1845 as a minister of the Pleasant View
Baptist Church of Eastern Owen Co., near the
Scott Co. border.
Early censuses find Cornelius DUVAL(L) Sr. & Jr.
in Scott Co., KY, from which this part of Owen Co.
was formed.

Cornelius H. DUVALL m Euphrena F. SNELSON
16 Dec. 1847 Owen Co., KY.
They are on p. 270 of 1850 Census Owen Co., KY
next to:
Samuel P. DUVALL 45 and Mary 47, eight children
and Ann RANSDALE 78.

James SNELSON 26, Rebecca SNELSON 51 and several
children are five residences away, same page.

There are seven other DUVALL marriages in Owen Co.

William RANSDELL m Paemlia(sp) DUVALL 3 Apr 1832.

An older Cornelius 57 and Polly DUVALL lived also
in Owen Co. this census.
This is probably the Cornelius DUVALL who was
the pastor of the Pleasant View Baptist Church
in SE Owen Co. in 1840.

Before 1819 this part of Owen Co. was Scott Co.
where earlier DUVALL records are found.

Some DUVALL Information From the Book,

Cornelius Duvall (Junior) 1793-1851

Cornelius Duvall, son of Cornelius & Nancy (Pryor)
Duvall, was born about 1793 in Kentucky. His wife,
Polly, was likewise born in Kentucky, but abt 1800.

On September 7, 1827, presumably his children -
Permelia, Nancy, William, Western Branch, and
Preston -had become legatees of an estate, whereby
he was appointed their guardian. Cornelius Duvall
Senior, his father, was the bondsman.

Although he was 17 years of age at the close of
the Revolution, no military service has been found
for him. He did not apply for a pension under the
Congressional Act of 1832, so any military service
or aid he might have given to the Army or State
has not been recorded.

On December 12, 1830, Samuel P. Duvall & John L.
Adkins signed his bond executed in Scott County,
when he was chosen the guardian of Mareen Duvall,
an orphan over 14 years of age, & Harriett Duvall,
another orphan over 14 years of age.

His son, Marine Duvall, died testate in Owen Co.
in 1834 and without issue, naming his brother,
Benjamin Duvall, of Franklin Co., Kentucky, and
his sister Harriet. Samuel Duvall was executor.

He died testate in 1837. His will was dated
April 12, 1837, and probated in Gallatin County,
Kentucky, by Richard C. Lindsay & George R. Gardner.
He bequeathed his son, Joseph P. Duvall, $280,
and the balance of his estate equally to his children;
Cornelius Duvall, Nancy Ransdall, John Duvall,
Samuel Duvall, Benjamin Duvall, and Harriet Head.
To the heirs of his daughter Kezia Right (Wright),
deceased, and to his granddaughter, Nancy Lusby,
he bequeathed $5.00, and to the heirs of his dau,
Prudence Adkins, deceased, one negro. Several negroes
were to remain with his son, John, whom he appointed
executor with his son, Cornelius Duvall.

He was buried in the Old Duvall Burying Grounds
near Eagle Station now in Carroll County, KY.
His headstone reads "C.H. Duvall died April 13, 1837
in the 71 year of his age".

**There is a footnote on the page:
Joseph Pryor with his family settled also in KY,
though in Bourbon Co., where his will dated
Dec. 13, 1812, was probated Feb. 1813. He named
his wife, Mary, and daughter Anne Duvall. Other
heirs were sons: Joseph, Samuel, William, Richard,
Thornton, and Edwards; and daughters: Polly Pryor,
Nancy Pryor, and Prudence Hall; grandson Duke Pryor;
granddaughter Nancy dau. of Thornton Pryor;
brother Luke Pryor's son John.
