From reading the way the patent is written up, For the “Grain Cleaning Device” one can easily see that Monroe DAVIS was a genius and well-read.
During his life, Monroe patented 44 pieces of equipment that he invented. One of his most famous was called the “Ever Ready Little Giant” and it was a grain separator.
Monroe's Granddaughter, Margaret Birdeana, remembers when the machine was ready to try out. Her father, Elmer BRADFORD loaded it in the back of the pickup truck and they took it out to a farmer’s place to test it.
During the test it was throwing out too much wheat, so Monroe had to make some adjustments to it.
One time he went on a bus to Wisconsin to take care of some business about one of his patents, and returned to Blackwell late one night when it was very cold. It was only about a block from the bus stop to his home, but there was a little cafe open and so he stopped in and asked for a cup of coffee. Very unusual, as Monroe never drank coffee nor spirits of any kind.
The lady served him the coffee and he liked it so much he asked to buy the cup. She sold it to him for a dime.
