Monroe DAVIS was born November 8, 1843 at Monroe County, Missouri to James Madison DAVIS and Elizabeth (Evans) DAVIS.
James Madison DAVIS was born in Kentucky, and Elizabeth (EVANS)was born in Tenn. (per census and per Monroe's death cert). Most recently, it is believed James Madison DAVIS was the son of Thomas DAVIS-documentation pending.
"Madison & Elizabeth (EVANS) DAVIS" were married on Dec 9, 1833 at Shelby County, KY. The Marriage Record reflects their “marks”. The witness/bondsman was Valentine SWEENEY.

Shortly after the marriage, they relocated to Madison, Monroe Co., Missouri, where Monroe was born.
The following is a brief excerpt from a 1931 letter written by Monroe DAVIS, when he was 88 years old:
“I was born and raised about three miles northwest of Madison in the year 1843. Am now 88 years old, my name is Monroe DAVIS. My fathers name was Madison DAVIS, was generally known as Mat DAVIS, who settled where I was born in 1833”.
The Madison DAVIS family is reflected in in the 1840, 1850 & 1860 Monroe County, Missouri census enumerations as follows: (The family returned to Kentucky after 1860)
