SUCCESS STORY:
I have recently made contact with the Grandaughter of Blanche (Davis) SMITH. Welcome Marilyn!!

Lula "Blanche" (DAVIS) SMITH was the daughter of Ida Ellen (Harrod) and William Monroe DAVIS. Her brother was Harry Monroe DAVIS. Lula "Blanche" DAVIS was born April 24, 1887 at KS.

Blanche's brother, Harry DAVIS was married to my Grandmother, Verna B. (Salisbury) DAVIS in 1917 at Wichita, KS. In 1920 my father, (Blanche's nephew), Merle Armond DAVIS was born at Enid, OK to Harry & Verna DAVIS. Harry & Verna divorced in 1923.

Lula "Blanche" DAVIS married Jesse Cameron SMITH, however, the exact time and place remains unknown. Jesse Cameron SMITH was born July 8, 1886 in McPherson,KS. His father was John C. SMITH, born in CO and his mother was Mary W. CRANFORD (Granford?), born in KS. I'd like to learn more about the SMITH and CRANFORD families.

Their son, Clifford SMITH was born July 30, 1909 at Fairview, OK. {Blanche's parents are in the 1910 Major Co. Census, with her 13 year old brother Harry}.

Jesse and Blanche SMITH are listed in the Enid, OK city directories from 1919 to 1930. In 1919 Jesse SMITH is listed as an employee of Gensman Bro. & Co. and their residence was 106 North 11th Street.

Jesse and Blanche SMITH are listed in the 1920 Enid, OK (Garfield County) Census. The Census provides the following:
Jesse SMITH, age 32, born KS, Mother b KS, Father born KS, working Delivery at a Banning Mill
Blanche SMITH, wife, age 32, born KS, Mother born KS, Father born MO
Clifford H. SMITH, son, age 9, born OK, Mother born KS, Father born KS.

I have a Christmas card that was sent to my Grandmother and father on Dec 19, 1925. {2 yrs after Blanche's brother and my Grandmother had divorced}. It is signed by Jesse, Blanche and Clifford. Their return address on the envelope is 1124 East Broadway, Enid, Oklahoma. {Close to the area Blanche's parents resided at}.

Clifford SMITH was born in Fairview and raised and educated in Oklahoma. On November 18, 1928 Clifford SMITH married Anna M. McCASLIN at Enid, OK.

From Sheridan City Directories;

Their son, Clifford J. (not H.) SMITH moved to Sheridan abt 1941. Clifford was a meat cutter at Safeway and lived on Big Goose Road.

His father, Jesse SMITH is not listed in the 1942 directory.

In 1945 Clifford SMITH is working as a Fireman for the CB & Q Railroad and was living at 940 W. Loucks (9 blocks from Main Street). And, Jesse is a "chipper" carpenter, living at 316 Tschirgi, Apt. 4.

On August 16, 1949 Jesse Cameron SMITH died at Sheridan, Wyoming. He was a member of the First Christian Church and was an Odd Fellow member. Burial was in the Odd Fellows section of the cemetery.

In 1957 Clifford was the meat manager at Boyd's Grocery and was living at 625 W. Loucks. His mother, Lulu Blanche SMITH is widowed and also living at 625 W. Loucks.

The last entry is in 1962 and only Clifford SMITH was listed.

Clifford had worked as a Meat Processor in KS, CO, MT, and WY. He moved to Tucson in 1962. Lula "Blanche" SMITH had moved to Tucson, AZ about 1959, where she died on November 24, 1969. At the time of her death, Blanche had one son, Clifford SMITH, two grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Lula Blanche (Davis) SMITH is buried next to her husband, Jesse at Sheridan Wyoming, Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Clifford SMITH moved to Canon City, CO in 1974 and worked for Ace Hardware for 10 years. He died in Canon City, CO on January 14 1995. His wife Anna is believed to have preceded him in death in 1988, also at Canon City, CO. Children of Clifford & Anna SMITH have not yet been determined. Clifford SMITH was active in the Scotish Rite, Odd Fellows Lodge and was a First Christian Church member.

Ida (Harrod) DAVIS died 1952 and William Monroe DAVIS died in 1955, both are buried at the Burden, KS (Cowley Co.) Cemetery. In both of their obituaries, their surviving children are named as Harry Monroe DAVIS of Enid, OK and Mrs. Blanche SMITH of Sheridan, Wyoming.

In 1960, Blanche's brother Harry Monroe DAVIS died at Enid, OK. Per his obituary, his sister, Mrs. Blanche SMITH of Tucson, AZ, survived him.
