Wm and Celesia Elizabeth (Harrod) TRIPLETT Family

William J. TRIPLETT was born 2-14-1860 at Owen County, KY to Harry and Almira TRIPLETT. William grew to manhood in Franklin County, KY and in 1884 he moved to Kansas.

William J. TRIPLETT married Celesia "Elizabeth" (HARROD) on January 1, 1885 in Kansas. Elizabeth was born 3-24-1870 in Kokamo, Indiana to Moses and Mary Jane (Duvall) HARROD.

I find William and Elizabeth TRIPLETT living in Sheridan Twp, Cowley County, KS with her parents, Moses & Mary Jane HARROD, in March of 1885. William was 24 and Elizabeth was 15.

OBITUARY: William J. TRIPLETT
William J. TRIPLETT, son of Harry and Almira TRIPLETT was born in Owen County, KY on February 14, 1860 and died on Friday May 13, 1932 when he was 72 years, 2 months and 29 days old.

Mr. TRIPLETT grew to manhood in Franklin County, KY and in 1884 he came to Kansas. On January 1, 1885 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth (HARROD) and to this union six children were born all of whom are living and were at his bedside when death came. He was ill for seven weeks spending the last ten days at the Newton Memorial Hospital

He leaves to mourn his departure his widow Mrs. Elizabeth TRIPLETT, his children Mrs. Hallie DARR, Mrs. Hattie PENINGER, Herbert TRIPLETT, Henry TRIPLETT and Herald TRIPLETT of Winfield, 19 Grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

OBITUARY: Aubry O. PENINGER Dies at Hospital Today

Aubry O. PENINGER of Burden died this morning (2-27-1957) at 4:40 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Hospital where he had been admitted Sunday following a stroke.

He was born October 30, 1883 at Centerville, Iowa, son of Mr. and Mrs. John PENINGER. he was married to Hattie (TRIPLETT), January 8, 1908 at Winfield. Most of his life was spent as a farmer near Burden, but in 1941 he moved with his family to Burden.

He was employeed by Boeing Aircraft in Wichita until his retirement three years ago. He was a member of the Burden baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Hattie and son, Wayne of the home; four other children, Mrs. Ethel MILLER of Route 4, Burden, Mrs. Mildred BOLINE of Tucson, AZ., Major Lavere PENINGER, stationed in Germany, and Leonard of Ark. City; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, ray of Winfield and John of Burden; two sisters, Mrs. Flora POWERS and Mrs. Lena TRIPLETT of Burden.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Miles Mortuary of Burden, pending arrival of Major PENINGER from Germany.

OBITUARY: Mrs. Herman TRIPLETT Died of Heart Attack

Mrs. Velma TRIPLETT, wife of Herman TRIPLETT of Burden, died following a heart attack Tuesday (6-23-1959) at 6:30 a.m. at the home of her son, Leon, in Burden. She was a lifetime resident of Burden community.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Burden Baptist Church with Rev. Shaw BELEW officiating. Burial will be in Burden Cemetery with Miles Mortuary in charge.

Mrs. TRIPLETT was born December 15, 1895 near Burden, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward RYAN. She was married April 20, 1911 to Herman TRIPLETT at Windfield. She was a member of the Burden Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Leon of Burden, 2 daughters, Mrs. Neva WISE of Burden and Mrs. Leona ROTHA of Wichita; a brother, Charles RYAN of Burden; a sister, Mrs Faye RADCLIFF of Wichita; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

OBITUARY: Henry TRIPLETT, Burden Resident, Dies In Hospital
Henry Paul TRIPLETT, 68, Burden, died Thursday (7-29-1965) at Newton Memorial Hospital. He was born February 22, 1897 near Winfield and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William T. (J) TRIPLETT. he was married to the former Eunice (KETTS) May 18, 1921 at Winfield.

TRIPLETT had been an automobile dealer all of his adult life and was a horse-racing enthusiast. He was a member of the Burden Baptist Church, the American Legion and was a World War I Veteran. He had served as a member of the Burden City Council and for many years was president of the Burden Fair.

He is survived by the widow, a daughter, Mrs. Max CANNON; and a son, Kenneth, all of Burden. Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Hallie DARR and Mrs. Hattie PENNINGER; two brothers, Herbert and Harold and four grandchildren, all of Burden.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Burden Baptist Church with Rev. BATEMAN officiating. Interment will be in the Burden Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Herbert TRIPLETT

Herbert TRIPLETT, 80, Burden retired farmer, died at 12:20 p.m. Saturday (10-24-1965) at his home in Burden after an illness of nearly two years. He had been seriously ill for several weeks.

Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Burden Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis BATEMAN officiating. Interment will be in the Burden Cemetery with Miles Mortuary of burden in charge.

A resident of Burden since 1947 and a lifelong resident of the county, Mr. TRIPLETT was born September 23, 1885 in the Tisdale Community, but had lived most of his life in the Burden area. He was the son of William and Elizabeth TRIPLETT. On August 16, 1908 he married to Lena PENINGER at Burden.

Survivors besides the widow are three daughters, Mrs. Bert (Edna) GRAY, Seattle, Wash; Mrs. Glenn (Vida) HAVNER, and Mrs. Doris GUAPO, both of Wichita; four sons, Ross and Claude of Burden, Leroy of Paxton, IL and Don of Oklahoma City, Okla; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold of Burden; two sisters, Mrs. Hattie PENINGER and Mrs. Hallie DARR of Burden.

OBITUARY: Harold TRIPLETT

Harold TRIPLETT, 62, Burden resident, died Sunday afternoon (6-29-1969) at K.U. Medical Center in Kansas City. At one time he had been employed at St. John’s college as security officer.

TRIPLETT was born July 2, 1906, at Burden, the son of William and Elizabeth TRIPLETT. He was married to Neva MATTHEWS, May 4, 1929 at newkirk, Okla. For a few years he was employed at the APCO Refinery in Arkansas City and had also operated a filling station in Burden. For nine years he had been city marshal for Burden. He was a member of the Baptist Church, past member of Lions Club, and a member of the Kansas State Police Officers Association.

TRIPLETT is survived by his wife Neva, of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Don (Lucille) BAILEY, Burden; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Everett DARR and Mrs. Hattie PENINGER, both of Burden.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Miles Funeral Home Chapel in Burden with the Rev. Laurence HENRY officiating. Burial will be in the Burden Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Mary TRIPLETT

Mary Lucille TRIPLETT, 76, of 1734 E. Seventh Ave., Winfield died Nov. 24, 1992, at her home.

Born february 20, 1916, east of Winfield, she was the daughter of Charles A. and Ida Mae (NEWMAN) JORDAN. After attending Tisdale schools, she married Leon TRIPLETT Aug. 12, 1934 in Winfield.

The couple first lived in Burden, where she was employed at the State Bank of Burden. The TRIPLETTS then lived in various locations in Oklahoma and Kansas before moving to Route 3 during the early 1960’s.

TRIPLETT was employed as a sales clerk for Graves Drug Store and later as a PBX operator at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center.

She attended the Baptist Church. Her husband preceded her in death in 1974.

Survivors include a daughter, Beverly SCHWANTES, of 1115 Menor St; a sister, Gladys VORIS of 116 E. 11th Ave; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Miles Funeral Service, with intermentin Burden Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon on Friday. A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc.
