Channeling is the magic of power-conversion. Magical power is drawn inhuge
amounts from the Sun itself and then converted into something useful such
as an electric attack or a wall of fog. Novice channelers are not very
good at this and are very inefficient in converting this power, but as
channelers become more experienced they become more and more adept at power
conversion.
Casting a channeling spell creates a visible magical "link" with the sun.
Some energy of the sun is "channeled" through this link. This happens in
an instant and along with a sound similar to that of a thunderclap (Not
so loud, though, but still quite audible). If the channeler is below 5th
level, some of the energy is wasted which also causes a slight increase
in temperature. Of course this means that subtle spellcasting is
practically impossible as there are few living beings that can't sense
and are also blind and deaf.
Channeling rituals are extremely simple but unexperienced people will probably
not be able to contain the channeled energy. This requires some physical
and mental endurance. Therefore a channeler must have at least 12 constitution
and 12 wisdom. Characters with less than 9 intelligence can become channelers
if their constitution and wisdom are sufficient. Elves, Gnomes and other
races with penalties to constitution and wisdom can become channelers.
Channelers receive bonus magic points depending on their constitution score,
just like bonus hit points. Here's a table with the various progressions.
Level: | Hit Points: | Magic Points: | Thac0: | WP slots: | NWP slots: | Experience: |
1 | 1d4 | 2d4 | 20 | 1 | 4 | 0 |
2 | 2d4 | 4d4 | 20 | 1 | 4 | 2500 |
3 | 3d4 | 6d4 | 20 | 1 | 4 | 5000 |
4 | 4d4 | 8d4 | 19 | 1 | 5 | 10000 |
5 | 5d4 | 10d4 | 19 | 1 | 5 | 20000 |
and so on.. | +1d4/ level | +2d4/ level | -1/ 3 levels | +1/ 6 levels | +1/ 3 levels | and so on.. |
At 5th level, Channelers can be promoted to various classes, which I will add as soon as there's demand or I feel like it. If you don't use the promotion rules, then exchange the exp. levels mentioned above with the standard Wizard exp. levels.
