A rover is a rare and wonderful species...
They are most at home in an environment conducive to their respective natures. ie. their own little worlds. It is a special treat to be able to observe these creatures in their natural habitat, though their actions may seem confusing to you.
The key to the whole thing is that you have to look at the underlying meaning behind their actions. Many times this is not easy, esp. when you see them dancing in the rain to music only they can hear, or testing the physical limits of themselves and
their automobiles for no apparent reason at all. I have done an extensive study into one such pack of these beings. That is to say, I have observed them from the inside. It would seem that by becoming one of them I became free to express myself as
I truly am without worrying about the shackles of modern society. They are a group without judgement. None are above others, yet order is still maintained (in the guise of anarchy).
In the attempts to expand their crew, this pack seems unable, or unsure of how to proceed. The main cause of this could be that there is no set way to describe what the concept of Rovering is about. The test packs' main slogan is "boy scouts for
big people". This serves to get across the general idea, but is unfit for those who don't know what boy scouts are. I have found that there are two main ways to describe a Rover. Lord Baden Powell's way, that, like Christianity is well meaning, but
not well practiced; or the more vague expression of a group of young friends, looking to discover the meaning of life by having fun. As you can clearly see, this is not very revealing in it's simplicity.
06/99 I have completed stage two of my investigation. After a year as one of their low ranking "Squires" I infiltrated right into the heart of the organization. I have now been fully accepted into the Crew. The fools, they have no idea they are being
watched. Hahaha. As I am now a member, it has been bestowed upon me by the general order of the crew not to reveal some of the secrets about the acceptance ceremony. I will however, issue a formal warning to all those who would venture into our crew
that they had best have an open mind as to the uses of "Jello". (A slightly humiliating and messy ritual, involving this gelatinous substance is apparently customary for any acceptance ceremony. I can only say that I look forward to such time
that I am on the other end of the plastic container!)
I must apologize. The above makes it sound as if the Rovers are a bunch of mean, cold hearted cynics, that delight in the humiliation of others. That's only true some of the time; and remember... It's all in good fun.
09/99 I have failed in step three in my diabolical plot to access the governing body behind the mystical "Rover". After being nominated, and humbly accepting, they must have seen through me for the vote turned against me and in the favour of Lisa Witherington. Please do not get the wrong impression. I bear Lisa no ill will and am very sure that she will do a far more than adequate job as mate for the Crew. (Besides, being the one in charge would place the blame squarely on my shoulders upon the completion of step 4 of my plan) Hahahahaha!
11/99 Oh, sad times have fallen upon the members of this Crew. Due to a lack of enthusiasm in scouting from the lower ranks, our region is now having to face the possibility of disbanding. The chaos and destruction I've been planning since day one has come to pass, and now I feel saddened. I don't really think I knew what I was doing. Our members are resilient, though. We will not be conquered! If the 1st North Grimsby Rovers disband, we will likely become the 1st Smithville Rovers, keeping the Crews chosen name of Kings Own Knights.
This year shows a younger generation of Rovers stepping into the limelight. Two of our older members have passed the magic age wherein they can no longer be an active part of the Crew. This is truly sad, for it is quite obvious that they are still young at heart. One has been asked back into our ranks as an Advisor (Someone who's there to take the blame) and we are currently trying for an honourary member status for the other. If you are even mildly considering joining us now would be the perfect time to do it! Keep it in mind...
For those of you who are still wondering what a Rover is, remember: The best way to see what a Rover is, is to come to a meeting and see for yourself...
The door is always open to those with open minds...
