XXX Godsmack Bio XXX

Godsmack originally got together in 1995 as "The Scam". Sully Erna, lead singer, had previously been in the band, "Stripmine"(who were signed on to Warner/Reprise Records). After two to three years with Stripmine, Sully went back up to Boston only to start up a band by the name of "The Scam". It consisted of Sully, Lee Richards, Robbie Merril (from Michigan), and Tommy Stewart. Lee Richards and Tommy Stewart left due to disagreements with the band. After Lee left, "The Scam" aquired new guitarist Tony Rambola and drummer Joe D'Arco. The Scam stayed local playing local venues to the likes of The Red Square. After their drummer, Joe, left the band Tommy Stewart returned. At that time, "The Scam"consisted of Sully, Tony, Robbie, and Tommy.

There are many people out there who believe that the name "Godsmack" derived form the song off of Alice in Chains' album Dirt. However, this couldn't be any farther from the truth. "Godsmack" is a reference to the idea behind Instant Karma. "What comes around, goes around, like god just smacked ya" as Sully put it during a candid interview, "People will get over it eventually".

In 1997, Godsmack signed with EK Records, and released "All Wound Up". In the summer of 1998, the band signed a contract with Univeral Records and released their self titled album. Fans, however, are not to be confused about the two albums. They are pretty much the same albums. The only difference is a couple of tracks. Currently, the band is promoting their album, doing lots of shows, and also have their own official web page. They put on outrageous shows so if anyone ever has the opportunity to see them live, take it! please! do it for yourself!
