John's an individual and with the R1 becoming so popular decided to make a few cosmetic changes the R1's appearence. The first thing to do was get the seat retrimmed with yellow inserts. Then R1 stickers were painstakingly cut out of yellow sticker paper and applied over the originals. This took nearly a full day to do and the result was well worth the effort with sticker looking like the were applied at the factory.
In the photo below you'll notice the Yamaha sticker on the tank and the R in the R1 on the ducttail are now yellow. Not all the decals have been changed to yellow but just enough to make the bike stand out from other R1's.
The bike has also had minor alterations mechanically with a full head to can Hindle race system replacing the the standard EXUP system. When this was installed John had the bike dyno tuned and rejetted. The result.....151 rear wheel HP. I kid you not fellow web riders. I'll have the paperwork soon enough and I'll show the full dyno curves of this mean mother R1!
Another alteration is a M-Toby steering dampner. The bike now has next to no tank slap and when your on the back wheel at 180km's thats a reassuring thought. Digging into tight corners is a breeze also with agile R1 tackling the tightest of mountain ranges with the greatest of ease.
Stay tuned to this page and if we ever stop long enough I'll get some action shots of the R1 in it's natural position - on the back wheel!
