When I started this site, I said I wouldn't explain the story to you, as I
assumed you already knew far more than I could tell. Well, I was wrong.
Friends of mine in Europe have informed me that they've never even HEARD
of Sailormoon, much less seen the anime or read the manga. Well, I suppose
I'll start out simply, with a few definitons, then we'll get into character
sketches, then....well, I don't know yet. We'll see when we get there,
won't we? =^.~=
manga: any japanese comic. also the name of the japanese comic
style, although it may not necessarily be from Japan.can be translated
roughly to mean "motionless picture entertainment" or something like
that..... basically, an illustrated, serialized story.
most anime series start out as manga. sailormoon did.
anime: in japan, any animation, japanese or not. in north america,
any japanese animation.
senshi: "warrior". replaced with "scout" (as in "Sailor Scout") in
english version.
kawaii: cute. used for animals, children.
ne: basic equivaent to "isn't it?" or "right?" in english.
chibi: small, little.
neko: cat. in japan, cats say "niya" instead of "meow". interesting
fact, ne?
-chan: suffix used on a friend's name.
-san: suffix equivalent to a title (such as mr., mrs., miss, ms.)
-kun: suffix used for a boy that one is acquainted with.
-sensei: suffix used for a teacher or as a sign of great respect.
ok, now for character sketches. we'll start with sailor moon and work our
way through the senshi. sound good? good! =^.~=
(a note: in japanese, last names are written first. this is how i am
writing them.)
(another note: there are a lot of spoilers in here. i figured i should
announce this because supposedly there are people who like finding things
out for themselves. personally, i'd rather have them explained! but
anyway, i'm warning you...if you don't want to find out certain
things, don't read this! thank you. =^.^=mako-chan.)
Tuxedo Kamen (Tuxedo Mask)/King Endymion
real name:Chiba Mamoru (meaning: "earth protector")
english name: Darien Shields
age: i'm not entirely sure. about 3 years older than Usagi.
interesting stuff: orphaned at a young age by way of a car accident. lives
alone. can be very sarcastic (and cruel)at times, but always protects
Sailor Moon from danger.
b-day: August 3
Sailor Mercury
real name: Mizuno Ami (meaning: "of water"; i don't know what "ami" means)
english name: Amy Anderson
age: same age as Usagi. (they go to the same school, and are in the same
class.)
interesting stuff: Ami is known as being very intelligent, and is proud of
her top marks. She wants to be a doctor like her mother. She has a fear
of love letters (as in the film short "Ami-chan's First Love")
b-day:September 10
Sailor Mars
real name: Hino Rei (meaning: "ghost/spirit of fire")
english name: Raye Hino (she's the only one to escape without a horribly
mangled name.....=^.~= )
age: same age as the others, only she goes to a different school.
interesting stuff: lives at her grandfather's temple, where she is a
priestess. Rei has psychic powers at times, and 2 pet crows, named Phobos
and Deimos.
b-day: April 17
Sailor Jupiter
real name: Kino Makoto (meaning: "the truth/sincerity of trees")
english name: Lita
age: a year older than the other inner senshi, but attends the same school
as Usagi and Ami.
interesting stuff: like Mamoru, an orphan, but her parents were killed in
a plane crash. being tall for a girl in Japan (5'6" or so), Makoto is
afraid no man will love her. she likes plants, baking, and children. she
is constantly seeing guys who look like her old boyfriend, much to the
amusement of the other girls.
b-day: December 5
Sailor Venus
real name: Aino Minako (meaning: "all of/for love")
english name: Mina
age: same age as the others. goes to another school, however.
interesting stuff: very boy-crazy, Minako sees nothing wrong with going
out with two guys at once. she is very athletic and her favourite sport is
volleyball. she is also Sailor V.
b-day: October 22
Sailor Chibi-Moon
real name: Tsukino Chibi-Usa (meaning: "small rabbit of the moon")
english name: Rini
interesting stuff: Chibi-Usa is Usagi and Mamoru's daughter from the
future (30th century), come back to learn how to be a Sailor Senshi. her
given name is Usagi, like her mother, but to avoid confusion, she is
called Chibi-Usa. also referred to as "Small Lady".
b-day: June 30
Sailor Pluto
real name:Meioh Setsuna
age: 20's maybe? significantly older than the rest.....
interesting stuff: Setsuna is the Guardian of the Gates of Time. if she
leaves her post, supposedly she will die, but we find it this is not so.
well, i shouldn't say that. when she leaves, she does die, but then she is
reincarnated. i don't understand it......
b-day: October 29
Sailor Neptune
real name: Kaiou Michiru
age:mid-to-late teens
interesting stuff: enjoys painting, playing violin, and is considered a
profesional at both. more compassionate than her companion Haruka.
b-day: March 6
Sailor Uranus
real name: Tenou Haruka
age: about the same as Michiru
interesting stuff: Haruka is not a male, as many believe. however, she
does enjoy confusing people with this. she rides a motorcycle and focussed
on her mission. she is also a famous race-car driver. in episode #96 of
SMS, Makoto is believed to have a crush on Haruka.
b-day: January 27
Sailor Saturn
real name: Tomoe Hotaru
age: about 12 when she first appears
interesting stuff: Hotaru is the daughter of the evil Professor Tomoe.
she is also the most powerful senshi, and as it turns out, the Messiah.
she is killed at some point, but is reincarnated to fulfill her destiny.
She is also Mistress 9.
b-day: January 6
Sailor Star Maker
real name: Taiki Kou
b-day: May 30
Sailor Star Healer
real name: Yaten Kou
b-day: February 8
if you thought that Sailor Uranus was a little odd, check out these
guys. in their everyday lives, they are male. however, they turn into
females to become Sailors. i really don't know very much about the
Starlights. they have a band, which is very popular. one of them likes
Usagi, but since she is with Mamoru, she won't go for it.
(note: remember how i said at the beginning that in japanese, family names
come before given names? well, it still applies. i feel that i have to
stress this point, as a lot of people seem to get confused and think that
these guys are brothers or something. they're not; it's just a weird thing
that all their first names happen to be the same. but "kou" apparently
means "light"....)
Sailor Chibi-Chibi
real name: Chibi-Chibi
Chibi-Chibi is a tiny little red/pink haired girl, about 2 or 3 years old.
"Chibi-Chibi" means, approximately, "Itsy-Bitsy" or "Teeny-Tiny". in the
anime,all she can say is "Chibi Chibi!!" her place in the scheme of things
is often debated. some people (and the senshi, for a while) thought she
was another of Usagi and Mamoru's children from the future, or possibly
even Chibi-Usa's future child. neither of these is right, but it depends
on whether you go by the manga or the anime what the answer is. therefore,
i'm not going to discuss it. she is very cute.
Artemis
role: Sailor Venus' guardian cat, and Luna's companion. he has a major
crush on Luna, but she won't look at him. in the future, they have a
child together, whom we see in SuperS. he also is Central Control...at
least, that's what someone told me. he is the white moon-cat.
Diana
role: Chibi-Usa's guardian cat, and Artemis and Luna's daughter from the
future. Diana has a way of asking very direct, potentially embarrassing
questions. she is the little grey/mauve moon-kitten.
Ail/Alan
alias (japanese): Ginja Seijuuro
a pair of aliens, come to earth because of the Doom Tree. i don't know
anything about them cuz i never saw the Doom Tree series.
(This is from the USA episodes. I didn't see them cuz a) i live in canada,
and b) i very rarely watch dubbed episodes, but a friend gave me the
info.)

It started out with just the Doom Tree,but it got so lonely that it
decided to make a different species. Well, Ann and Alan's race started out
peaceful , but they got corrupted by the Negaverse. Soon because of wars
and battles Ann and Alan were the only ones left of their race. They both
searched the galaxy searching for a proper place to get energy for the
Doom Tree. Soon it came to Earth and they kept sending gardenias down to
gather energy. Well, Sailor Moon and the rest of the scouts kicked the
cardians' butt every time with a little help from Moonlight Knight. [Just
like Tuxedo Mask except different outfit and he has white roses instead of
red.] Eventually Ann tries to draw Serena to her apartment, only Darien
comes too. [Ann likes Darien and Alan likes Serena, but Alan hates Darien
and Ann hates Serena.] So when they get there the Doom Tree starts stealing
their energy, but Ann and Allen start yelling at it telling it to release
them both. Eventually the Doom Tree reacts and kills Ann. Then the scouts
get there and everything turns to havoc. The Doom Tree cries out for them
to stop fighting, it tells them about their past, revives Ann, and they
all fly off into space.
Rubeus/Rubbeus
apparently meant to be "ruby"...
Demondo/Diamond
Prince of the Black Moon; seeks to destroy earth for having banished his
people kazillions of years ago...
Saphir/Sapphire
Demondo's younger brother. he is much more willing to make friends with
the earth people. in love with Emeraude; looks suspiciously like Mamoru
(only with blue hair instead of black); dies while trying to save the
earth.
Emeraude/Emerald
the one to carry out the plans; in love with Demondo but it is unrequited;
very vain. Eventually killed by the Sailor Senshi.
Black Lady
Actually Chibi-usa in a possessed state, having been fooled into believing
that no one loved her. At this time, she takes on an adult form, and has a
black downturned moon on her forehead just like the rest of the Black
Moon Clan.
As a result of her anger, she seeks to destroy the earth and especially
the Sailor Senshi for having hurt her. Fortunately, she is eventually
convinced that she is in fact loved, and turns back into her normal
self.
Wiseman
the ultimate power-holder of the Black Moon.
Professor Tomoe
an alien-possessed inventor who just happens to be Hotaru's father. He's
also the boss of the Witches 5.
Kaolinite
Professor Tomoe's secretary, and evil in her own right as well.
Mistress 9
an incarnation of evil channelled through Hotaru. sort of like Black Lady
in that sense, i guess.
Pharoah 90
the ultimate source of all evil, as far as i can tell.
Queen Nephrenia
evil queen who is afraid of growing old and ugly. she steals Mamoru from
Usagi, but Usa saves him. yay!! :)
Sailor Galaxia
The leader of the sailor Animates.an actual Sailor
Senshi at some point, she has two-tone hair and a gold Roman-style
outfit.she is pretty much Chaos personified, from what I understand....
