He was one of the first born in the penal colony. His father was a convicted thief, his mother a woman of ill repute. Both were sent to Australia from England for their crimes. As he grew in the tough community, he learned how to survive. In a city of criminals, one learned quick. The convicts were left to their own devices, and he exploited it for all he could. He conned his way through life. For food or shelter, he would use his charm and good looks to get by. Then he met up with Elizabeth Winterly. She was everything he wanted to be. Mysterious, rich (considering), and taken care of. He became her number one suitor and confidant. As their relationship grew, he also accumulated a lot of enemies.
