Name: Lan Merrick (real name: Bautista)

Age: Looks around 30, but in truth, he's pretty old. Since the beginning of Fey.

Nature: Fey

Description: Lan is short (reaching only 5 foot 7 inches) but he exudes a powerful confidence and grace that makes him seem taller. He is physically in excellent shape, muscular and lean, he is an avid outdoorsman. He usually wears comfortable jeans or khakis and a shirt or sweater of matching earthy colors. His hair is dark brown, almost black, and he wears it somewhat long and choppy, as if it were a nice layered cut years ago, but he was too lazy to get it cut again. His eyes are the same dark color. His skin is also slightly dark, making him seem to be of some foreign (yet unnamable) descent. He could be considered to be attractive but for the fact this his nose seems to have been broken one too many times and so looks a little out of place on his otherwise attractive face.

Personality: He is very confidant, not in a cocky way, but in a self assured way. He is nice, despite his off-putting atmosphere and when known a little better, he is genial, warm and trustworthy. Lan generally means no ill harm to anyone and he isn't cruel or petty. He especially likes women. Lan happens to be very sensual and he is appreciative of every female that exists, believing that if any creature could be perfect, the human female was close. Lan doesn't get angry often, he is very patient. However, once he IS angry, it takes him a long time to calm down and he doesn't forget past slights very easily. He has an excellent memory and has an even keener sense of observation. Not much escapes his notice.

History: Lan is a (very) minor fey god. However, Lan is not his true name. Many, many millennia before, Lan was known as Bautista. He and his family were the minor fey gods who controlled the harvest seasons in the mortal realms. His family line was known as the "Harvesters." Specifically, they were strongest during the summer and autumn months and their magick could be seen in the fall of the leaves, the migration of the animals, and the warm and dry Indian summers that humans loved so much. Lan's family was very well loved by the fey court because of their jovial and hearty natures and their kind spirits. Lan was considered something of a black sheep in the family because he wasn't born just a harvester. Lan was also born a "hunter." While he shared the gifts and abilities of his family, he also bore the traits of a hunter (see abilities). This was unheard of in a minor god family line, since they usually only had one specialty. On top of this difference, Hunters were considered to be "Unseelie" and though Lan showed no signs of becoming a dark fey, he still managed to make others worry. He was not as outgoing as the rest of his family and spent a good deal of his time by himself, traversing the mortal realms. Lan truly loved nature, and would rather be surrounded by the elements that he controlled than by the suffocating opulence of the Fey Court.

When the Fey Court made their monumental decision (a few millennia back) to withdraw official fey involvements with the mortal realms, most of the minor fey gods were no longer needed on the mortal earth. It was generally felt that the mortal realms could manage themselves now and that Fey involvement was neither necessary nor safe for humans any longer. Most of the minor fey gods happily assumed royal positions at court and those that didn't were tasked with other responsibilities. A very select few made the scandalous decision to part ways with the Fey Court and live in the mortal realms rather than follow the decree of the Fey gods. Lan was one of these few. This caused quite the stir in the Fey community and the "defectors" were told never to return. Eventually, as the Fey Court changed and the realms grew close again, it became commonplace for Fey to traverse the mortal realms as they once did. Those that were banished so long ago were welcomed home with open arms, but most never returned. Lan's family still searches for him, however vainly it may seem, hoping that eventually they will find him.

As time passed in the mortal realms, many of those Fey who originally left chose to become mortal and have since died. Although Lan has remained Fey, he long ago shed his royal name of Bautista and adopted the more human name of Lan Merrick. His family does not realize that he has evaded them for centuries and will continue to do so for as long as he can. Lan has lived among humans for so long, that it is rather difficult for other immortals (fey or otherwise) to tell if he is Fey. Only another royal fey or god could or would recognize him at this point. Lan has traveled to Midnight Bay before, but only briefly. He has returned again, this time to stay for a while (though it is against his better judgment) because he feels drawn to the place and he is not fool enough to ignore his instincts.

Abilities: Lan has all the abilities of a fey, but also more specialized abilities of a fey god. He can call the harvest and the hunt and like his family, is most powerful in summer and autumn. Naturally, of course, he is weaker in the winter months. Nature is partial to him and there is no animal that fears him. Since he is a hunter, nothing can escape him forever, he can track something down to the ends of the earth and back. He has a keen sense of observation as well and his instinct is NEVER wrong. Many Fey that are hunters are grouped with the "Unseelie" or Fey that are considered evil and dangerous. Though Lan is not evil, many Hunters ARE evil and have powers that are associated with the Unseelie (great stores of power, the ability to paralyze or kill with words, etc). Lan does not have these powers and never will.
