Rules Of the Bay

Because this is a Role Playing Game, we do need some rules to make sure that we all don't go around killing each other's characters. Here they are, if you do not adhere to them you will be removed from the list, no exception.

1) No chain letters or similar types of mail will be sent to the list. It is very annoying and clogs up our inboxes. If you find a neat joke you want to share with you writer buddies do it off list.

2) Be polite. No one likes to write with someone who puts others down. If any complaints of this type of negative feedback are brought to me I will speak to the aggressor off list. If you liked someone's post then by all means say so to them but do not make negative comments about their work.

3)Interaction Rules:
i) No forced interaction will be tolerated. While there may be actions going on around you, it is not absolutely necessary to get involved. There is one exception: see rule 10.
ii) You can not kill or injure someone else's character without their explicit permission. Everyone to a certain extent views their characters as an extension of their creative ideas and should be respected.
iii) While it is not necessary it is always appreciated when you contact a writer off list and ask before interacting with one of their characters. You will find that it is much more fun if the person knows ahead of time.
iv) While you are not required to participate in anything, it's appreciated. What fun is a character who doesn't get involved?

4) This is considered by me to be the most important rule. If you have a problem with someone don't express it onlist. This creates tension and is not appreciated by anyone and WILL NOT BE TOLERATED! This is an offense that will get you removed from the list and I will not let you off the hook.

5) Before subbing to the list send a character bio to cofeeguru@comcast.net. This will assure that your subscription request is processed and not denied. A character form is located on the New Writers page.

6) Please take note, no character bio will be approved if they are an immortal, unless the player has participated in Midnight Bay for at least six months, and has shown his or herself to be responsible enough to wield the power inherent in an immortal character. If you do submit one, you will be asked to alter your character to fit the new ground rules.

7) Our world parallels the world which LKH has created. That means there cannot be were/fey mixes, nor were/vampire mixes, nor vampire/fey mixes in your characters. If you want a character like these descriptions, there are types of fey which might meet your criteria. Please contact me for further information.

8) Please note that the Bay is based upon LKH's world, and is NOT actually her world. In addition, as per LKH's express wishes, no characters from her books are allowed to be played as characters in this game, nor can their history be changed or interpreted in such a way that her books would be infringed upon. They're her creations, and just as we wouldn't want our characters changed by others, she wishes the same respect. :)

9) The world that Midnight Bay is based upon is Anita Blake's, not Merry Gentry's, simply because those two universes are not compatible, as LKH herself has stated. For forming a fey, it is fine to use them as a springboard to get ideas, but in Anita's world, since there has been very little written about feys, they are left largely up to interpretation. Therefore Seelie and Unseelie court rules do not necessarily apply, nor does Merry's aunt rule the Unseelie court, etc.

10) There is a new group in town: the Symposium. This group of mysterious deities will be occasionally tossing in various and sundry events that will make life in Midnight Bay much more interesting. They are run by the moderators, and while it is not strictly necessary to become involved in the events, it would be greatly appreciated, and a lot of fun. Just remember, if there is a giant crack in downtown Midnight Bay, it's kind of hard to ignore.

11) All posts are to be labeled as followed and placed at the beginning of EVERY post:
Title:
Writer:
Character:
Place:
Date:
Tags:

In addition: ALL posts are to be written in third person past. In other words: "He went to the store" rather than "I go to the store" or "He goes to the store."

12) There will be NO one line posts, no excuses. You will receive one warning, barring an accidental send through your email. Please either extend your post or copost one with another character. We're trying to keep the clutter down to a minimum in peoples' inboxes.

13) When replying to a post, only include the part of the post that is necessary to reply to. Do not copy and paste the entire email into your post. Again, it is unnecessary clutter.

14) Please remember to keep past events in mind. If something happened, it happened, you can't ignore it. For instance, if two people were married last week, they are, barring a sudden divorce, married this week. If there is a crack in Midnight Bay's downtown, unless it has been closed, it's still there.

15) If you are writing in Midnight Bay, you MUST be subscribed to MBOOC.
