The latest scoop on the boys in purple

Feb,18, 1999-Raptors make roster moves In advance of tomorrow's deadline for reducing active rosters to 12 men, the Raptors have released center William Cunningham, who saw almost no playing time. They also activated Negele Knight, and placed Mark Baker on the injured reserve. The Raptors will have to cut one more player, presumably New Zealand native Sean Marks, by tomorrow, unless they make up an "injury" and place him on injured reserve.

Feb.4, 1999-New VR schedule announced!

The Raptors schedule for the Barrie station featuring commentary by Leo Rautins and John Saunders has finally been released. VR will cover 25 games this year. Between TSN, CTV, and VR, 33 of the 50 regular season games will be available to fans in the Toronto area. I have a few minor quibbles with the scheduling: Washington and Philadelphia are two of the most exciting young teams in the league, and only two of their seven meetings with the Raptors are televised. Toronto has only two games with Western Conference powers, and one (March 26 at San Antonio) is not televised. Still, fans will have two or three games to watch every week for the next three months. Follow this link for the complete schedule.

Feb.3, 1999-Carter to start at small forward

Butch Carter has decided to start top draft pick Vince Carter at small forward, not Tracy McGrady as most had anticipated. Carter looked impressive in the second exhibition game against Boston, scoring 20 points. The coach feels that Vince can play more minutes than the slender McGrady. The move means that McGrady will likely spend more time in the backcourt, which is somewhat depleted with Micheal Williams on the injured list.

Feb.3, 1999-Roster announced

The Raptors annouced their season-opening roster. The lineup is Mark Baker, Dee Brown, Vince Carter, Doug Christie, William Cunningham, Sean Marks,Tracy McGrady, Charles Oakley, Reggie Slater, Michael Stewart, John Thomas, John Wallace, Kevin Willis and Alvin Williams. On the injured list are Negele Knight and Micheal Williams. The 14 man roster is a temporary measure introduced because of the short training camp. On February 19, the teams must reduce their roster to 12 men. Best guess is that Cunningham will be cut, as well as either Baker or Marks.
