Vince Carter was taken 5th overall in the 1998 NBA draft by Golden State and immediately traded to the Raptors for the 4th pick in the draft, Vince's college teammate Antawn Jamison. Vince played three seasons at the University of North Carolina under Dean Smith. He had an excellent season in his junior year, leading the ACC in field goal percentage, taking his team to the NCAA semifinals and being named a second team All-American.
When training camp started, it was assumed that Vince would get minutes backing up Doug Christie and Tracy McGrady at shooting guard and small forward. However, an impressive camp won him the starting position at small forward, and he has handled the responsibility well so far. Vince has played solidly in every game and thrown down some spectacular dunks to boot. Toronto fans have to be happy with Carter's development so far, and he may become a star in the next few years.
