I would like to start by saying how much I would have loved to be
with you today. Unfortunately I was unable to make the trip, but I am
thinking of all of you as your fight has also become our fight!
We, the Detroit Newspaper Strikers are fully aware of your strife
with JB Fields, and are in complete solidarity with you as you also
take on another enemy of the working class.
All too often it is difficult to have the average person understand
what it is that you are fighting for, unless this has happened to them
too.
Well on July 13th 1995 it happened to 2500 loyal workers here in
Detroit, and we didn't know what hit us 'til we found ourselves in
the street.
Now here it is 3 years later, and we and our many many supporters
continue the fight with our heads held high, and are proud to be
fighting for our Union as so many have done before us, so as we
could have a better life.
The experience of this strike in many cases has been rewarding, and
I would not give up the truths that I have learned, not even for the
paycheck from these corporate bastards that only scabs would sell
their dignity and self- respect for.
I have had my eyes openned to the attacks on the workers, such as
yourselves. Know that you are not alone in this global war, and we
all must come together to stand up to the evils of these
corporations. Know also that workers have no borders, not even with our
governments that sell us short, believing that we will divide and
be conquered.
On the contrary, their greed has united us as one force that they
will now have to deal with.
I and all of my brothers and sisters here in Detroit are proud as
hell to call you our sisters! We are with you in spirit, and will
continue to be with you even after you have won your fight, as we
are also winning ours.
Stand tall, stand proud, the whole world is watching as we all
stand with you in the true meaning of solidarity!
