As a member of MEC, I am surprised that MEC would find itself in a
situation where it has taken a position which weakens a group of workers
trying to collectively improve their quality of life. As you are aware
the standard of living and working conditions of workers across Canada are
under attack as organization such as Maple Leaf Foods justify significant
wage cuts and on the grounds of global competition and the low wage
ideology being promoted by right wing politicians and think tanks. It
seems the JB Field has joined this parade.
As an organization, MEC is committed to many of the principles which I
value. I had also assumed that they were committed to supporting workers
collective actions. I am assuming that this particular event is an
oversight on your behalf and that you will quickly move to remove the
product in question from your store shelves. Perhaps a small contribution
to the workers' strike fund would could be arranged.
