Dear B. Matheson,

I just received a disturbing email message regarding your sourcing policy and a strike at JB Fields. As members of MEC my spouse and I are deeply disturbed that we have been unwittingly purchasing items that are produced by a company that treats it's employees in a predatory manner. Additionally, we are offended that MEC endorses JB Fileds' business practises at the expense of women seeking a fair settlement for the last 9 months, and that MEC has chosen to deceive it's members by disregarding it's STATED policy. We find this whole matter distasteful and your business practises hypocritical. As members of MEC my spouse and I call upon MEC to:

1.- IMMEDIATELY stop selling JB Fields products.

2.- Recognize the struggle by the women of UNITE 1764 for equality and justice.

3.- NOT sell JB Fields products until the strike is FAIRLY settled by the employer JB Fields.

4.- That MEC call upon JB Fields to resolve the strike in this manner as soon as possible.

In the event that you have forgotten the MEC sourcing policy please read the following carefully. "Priority will be given to organizations:

(i) whose values and ethics are consistent with those of MEC,

(ii) who are proactive in improving the living standards of their employees,

(iii) who are socially responsible..."

We demand that MEC do the right thing and we expect:

a) an immediate resolution to this issue,

b) a response regarding your conflicting sourcing policy vs. business practise,

c) a follow-up via email regarding the strike and MEC relations with JB Fields.

My spouse and I will be going into the Ottawa MEC store in the next couple of weeks to determine if any JB Fields products are still being sold. If there is no resolution to this issue you can cancel our membership, and you can expect that we will expand and alert as many MEC members and the media to your actual business practises.

Thank you for your consideration and we look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Luc Daniel Renaud and Constance Maley
