Whereas our sisters in UNITE #1764 were asked by their employer, JB Fields to accept a 38% pay cut during collective agreement bargaining; and

Whereas our brothers in UNITE #1764 were asked to accept a 4% pay cut during negotiations, which they accepted, thus abandoning their sisters in their struggle; and

Whereas UNITE #1764 sisters have been on strike for almost seven moneths now to oppose wage cuts, management initiatives to remove union representation, seniority rights and grievance procedures from the collective agreement; and

Whereas under Ontario's anti-labour legislation, JB Fields has been employing scab labour since day one of the UNITE strike; and

Whereas JB Fields has recently announced that striking UNITE #1764 sisters have been fired due to Ontario's anti-labour legislation which allows for termination of strikers who have been on strike for more than 6 months;

Be it resolved that the SFL encourage its affiliates in Regina to join CUPE 2419's daily information picket at Eaton's and encourage its affiliates in other cities and towns to organize additional information pickets;

And be it further resolved delegates to the 1998 convention be asked to proceed directly to Eaton's following the close of convention on Saturday, October 24th to stage a mass informational picket line.
