Our first camp of the year was held on the weekend of October 16-18, at Camp Woolsey - on Trefoil Site. First I'd like to type in the report that our Pathfinder "Camp" person wrote!
On Friday, September 16, 1998 all but two of the 1st Orleans Pathfinders packed up the last of their things and left for camp. The first to arrive were Sarah and Kate, followed by Guider Susan. By 8pm all of the tents were set up and the girls were preparing their evening snacks.
That was how our weekend camp started. We had a wonderful time, even though we got a touch of rain. We went to Camp Woolsey (the BEST camp in the world) and stayed 2 nights. We had more of a luxurious camp than usual and the food was great! The Pathfinders and I would like to thank the leaders for helping us have a successful and enjoyable camp.
5 Tips to Improve Your Camp
1. Always check the weather a few days before, so you bring the right things.
2. Never shower the day of camp, the smell of the soap will attract the bugs.
3. Always bring the proper protection...ie Bug spray, sun screen, rain wear etc.
4. Never bring just enough food, you might get hungry!
5. Always be Prepared!
Our next camp will be at Tucker House. This will probably be another good camp, expecially since it will be in the winter!

I think that was a pretty glowing report. Now I will fill in a few details.
This was the first camp that we got each tent team to completely provide their own food. Guider Susan and Guider Jane felt that the "new" program allowed for mixed teams, so we encouraged the girls to pick out their own tent teams so that there would be a mix of ages and abilities per team. We ended up with a team of girls, with Rachel working on her Gold Camp Emblem - which she earned without a problem! Way to GO RACHEL!! There were two teams with Silver and Bronze girls mixed. And one team with three Bronze girls. Several of the teams had brought a smaller tent for their equipment (this also provided a spare tent in the event of rain, or damage). Each tent team came up with their own Program, menu and groceries. Guider Jane had brought a craft to do, just in case there was a lull (didn't happen!)
The girls did a superb job of planning their camp and carrying their plan out. We did have a touch of rain on Saturday afternoon, and I talked with the camp caretaker on Saturday morning, and it was exactly freezing out - O degrees Celsius, or 32 degrees Fahrenheit, as the low on Friday night. I was SO IMPRESSED that no one complained about being cold on Friday night - everyone WAS PREPARED!!
The girls did various challenges at camp, including a sunrise ceremony, Flag raising (colours), gadgets, campfire (a formal one with another Pathfinder unit on Saturday night) and cooking on an open fire and with a camp stove.
All in all, it was a MOST impressive camp.
