"Southern Snow"
One night I sat warmed by the fire,
warm is nice but it was not my desire.
I had visions of snowflakes in my head,
but after watching the nightly news that hope was dead.
"Seven long years since the last snow," I thought,
as I thought of the clear skies outside I became emotionally wrought!
I was sick of the fire warming me so,
those embers were sickening with their beautiful glow!
I threw on my coat, the one of black leather;
of all my things, this is the one I do treasure.
I threw open the door,
it was not long before I became agitated a little more.
See, I looked up at the sky,
and what did I see, a thousand stars twinkling in my eye!
The skies were not overcast, no snow!
Our southern winter--a no show!
The ice cold air pierced my jacket like little knives
It was only thirty degrees, oh how do the Alaskans survive?!
I stood there in silent defeat;
I decided to go inside, after all I felt really beat.
I looked up and to my surprise, what had appeared?!
No, not a sled and eight tiny reindeer!
Instead I saw a small delicate feather of a snowflake
gliding gracefully down, this dream I could not shake!
It didn't take me long to realize--this was not a dream!
with a newfound hope, my eyes began to gleam.
More and more snowflakes began to fall,
I thought of all the friends I needed to call.
Soon the ground was covered in bright white snow
boy did this make a gorgeous show.
Of all the things in the world, I knew what was most beautiful...
something rare, something awe-inspiring--a southern snow.
