Someone's Watching Over Me
Someone’s Watching Over Me
By Matropolis
No, we’re never in doubt, someone’s watching over us. Someone is helping us through the tough times. When we are falling, someone helps us up. That someone might be closer than we think.
“What do you mean you’re leaving?” Etcetra asked Plato sadly.
“Not forever sweetheart. Just a couple months. To tell my family I found the one and we’re getting married and we mated and everything,” Plato informed her.
“But I’ll miss you too much.”
“We can love each other when I get back. I promise. It’ll go fast.”
“Oh, alright.” Etcetra pulled him close and they started to make out.
“Heya baby!” Plato hooted. “Well, I gotta go. I gotta sneak on that plane. Good-bye honey.” He ran out of the junkyard.
Etcetra couldn’t believe he left her alone. She wanted him back. “He’s soooo sexy,” she said to no one in particular. “His fur, the colors, his eyes, his beautiful body…everything about him is sexy. His voice is sexy too. He’s just a sexy man.”
“Is that all you care about him? I mean, he already was obsessed with Victoria and everything…” Travie noted.
“Yeah, but he’s past that bitch,” Etcetra frowned, looking towards the sun.
“That’s not good for your eyes,” Matty told Etcetra.
“What are you, my mother?” Etcetra snorted.
“Well, lately you’ve ben careless, rude, and…weird. Something’s not right. You’ve been acting something aweful,” Jemima said.
“I’m fine, okay?” Etcetra snapped. “I’m fine. I don’t need your help. Plato and are perfect for each other. We’ll get married, do what we like to do, have a wonderful family, and so much more. And that slut Victoria won’t stand in our way.
“She’s not a slut! You love Victoria! Remember, she was your role model?” Electra asked.
“Just leave me ALONE!” Etcetra hissed. She stomped away.
“Boy, is she taking this hard,” Matty mumbled.
“You’re telling me. Plato goes a way for two months, she flips out,” Travie said.
“Well, how would you feel is Misto left for two months?” Electra defended her sister.
“I’d probably flip out,” Travie answered honestly.
“Well, he is going to college again fo three months next week,” Matty noted. Sillabub and Jemima nodded in agreement.
“WHAT???” Travie screamed. “MISTOFFELEES!!”! she wailed, running towards Alonzo’s Shack. She ran up to the door and started to pound on it. Alonzo opened it.
“Watch it kid, the door can only take so much pressure,” Alonzo said as Travie looked all around the shack.
“Matty’s not here…neither is Misto. I wanted to talk to you. I thought you might wanna go to the movies tonight.” Travie looked at him, forgetting about Misto.
“Alonzo…I told you it’s over with us. Misto and I are together. And we’re happy this way,” Travie said.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t try to steal my brother’s queenfriend. I miss you a lot. I have a hard time dating sometimes, cause when I put my arm around her, I think it’s you. I can’t even make out with anyone anymore. Cause I think of you.”
“That’s sweet Alonzo. But you have to get past me. There are so many girls that like you…you have to find the right one,” Travie told him.
“But Travie, I don’t want anyone else. I want you,” Alonzo git teary-eyed.
“Al, I’m sorry. It’s awkward enough to be dating my best friend’s older brother. And he’s a genius. But I really like him, and I like you too. And there’s always a place in my heart for you. But I’ve moved on, and you have to too. Please understand,” Travie explained.
“I understand. But my heart doesn’t.” Alonzo turned away and went to the bedroom. Travie stood in the doorway feeling sorry for Alonzo. She never knew he liked her that much. But she and Misto were for each other. Not to the point of love, and they might break up, but still…What was she to think of Alonzo. He missed her so much he couldn’t even date…that didn’t sound like Alonzo. He really loved her. A lot. What would she do? Every time she walked in looking for Misto it would hurt Alonzo. How could she go on?
She left the shack and bumped into Jonathan. He was smoking again. She took the catnip out of his mouth and crushed it. “Even Boxer’s smarter than you.” Jonathan just watched her walked away. James and George started to laugh. He backhanded them.
“Oof!” the wheezed. He chased Travie down the avenue.
“You really don’t think she’ll go for the cool look?” he yelled, talking about Matropolis.
“It’s not cool, Jonathan!” Travie called back. Jonathan stopped and started back towards his friends.
Misto walked up to Travie and licked her on the cheek. “Hi honey, I gotta talk to you,” he said.
“Me too,” Travie mumbled. They stopped and Misto took Travie by her paws.
“Sweety, I’g going to Scotland for three months. Harvard School for the Talented wants me,” Misto explained.
“Just so you can learn more,” Travie griped lowly.
“No, I’m teaching there.” Misto smiled and Traive gleamed brightly.
“You’re teaching? Why, that’s wonderful!” she exclaimed. She frowned. “I have to talk to you about something.”
“What’s wrong?”
“Misto, Alonzo is very depressed. He remembers…well…us. He misses me a lot. And I don’t know what to do. He won’t even date anymore cause he misses me so much.”
“Travie, Travie. Alonzo is a strong cat. He’ll get over it. You’re past him ,and he’ll realize that and find someone else. Don’t worry,” Misto assured her.
“I hope you’re right.” They walked their separate ways. Who knows Alonzo better than anyone in the world? Matropolis! She’s very close to her brother. She found Matty at the Tailz Bar betting with Pouncival on the night’s Clawball game.
“Are you kidding? The Japanese Siamese are gonna defeat the American Shorthairs by far,” Matty bet Pouncival.
“Then come to the game!” Pouncival insisted.
“I’m at the dog track tonight. I’m betting on #8. That’s Fireball. To the point, no.”
“Matty!” Trav ran to the bar. “How is Alonzo doing?”
“You mean on how he gets over you?”
“Yeah.”
“He sucks,” Matty replied, sipping her Chocolate Malt. “They all say: ‘Oh, he’ll get past it.’ But he talks, eats and breathes you. He’s obsessed. He was making out with Bomby on Quaxo’s bunk, and he got kicked in the face cause he called her Travie. He won’t do anyhitng anymore. He used to be a real bad boy. Now he won’t budge. He stays home and sulks. I told ya’ll love is no good.
“Thanks.” Travie stumbled out. Now she wished she didn’t know the truth. She walked out by the river and sat on a rock. Over and over, time and time again she watched the tide come in and out. She didn’t love Misto. And she did miss Alonzo, but she didn’t really love him either. What was she to do? I guess I’ll see what happens, she thought. She leaned over to see the deep blue wave.
“AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!” she screamed as a wave rolled up and carried her in. She could swim, but the force was too powerful. It pulled her under ans tossed her back up.
“HHHHHHEEEEEELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPP!” she cried when she was above water, then dunked under.
Suddenly, everything went black. She couldn’t see anything except her body floating lifelessly on the water. She was sure she had died. Drowned. Like her ancestors. She was unconscience and she couldn’t see anything. I’m dead. I must have died. I must have drowned. But then where am I?
But she wasn’t dead. Alonzo raced into the water. He dived in, and with all his strength, pulled her to shore. He called Matropolis, Pouncival, Tumblebrutus and Jemima for help. He gave her mouth-to-mouth recessitation. Matropolis helped pump her stomach. Water squirted from her mouth and she coughed. Pouncival brought her a bag to puke in, and Tumblebrutus called Bombalurina over. Jemima helped her sit up and breathe. She coughed and looked at Alonzo, istantly knowing he had saved her life. If it wasn’t for him, she would be floating lifelessly on the water. He picked her up on his back and she passed out.
In the Jellicle Junkayrd, everyone crowded around the rescuers. But in the end, Alonzo took Travie to his shack. Misto came home when he heard the news. “Travie?” he called. He was surprised to find Alonzo and Travie asleep on the floor next to each other. “ALONZO!” he screeched. He shook them awake. “How could you do this to me?” he yelled.
“It’s not what you think…” Alonzo said.
“Yes it is. Misto? I think we should take a break. Date other people…not be serious. I’m only a kitten…I’m not ready to be as seriousas you want. And I want to give Alonzo and I another chance. And I want you to date other people who like you more than me,” Travie explained.
“I guess you’re right. I know you are. But I got one question. How could Alonzo ever hear you that far away? He has no powers.”
“We’re never in doubt…” Jemima, Sillabub, and Matty said in Unison.
Travie finished: “Someone’s watching over me.”
