Professor George Challenger proposed the expedition to the archaeological committee to
prove that his theory about a Lost World was correct. He found a map, a photo of a dinosaur
and a description of the plateau from the dairy of a colleague of his, named Maplewhite.
Challenger was there when Maplewhite died and feels somewhat guilty because he feels
that he felt that he robbed Maplewhite of what is truly his discovery. However it was Challenger
persistence and commitment that led him to lead an expedition to find the plateau. Challenger
theorsied that there was somewhere on earth where time had "stopped," where dinosaurs still ruled
and man was not the masters. The time the
Challenger expedition have spent on the plateau have proven that his theory of the lost world was
true.
Challenger is extremely intelligent and possesses an incredible knowledge base from the atom
to the use of plants. He believed that everything has a scientific explanation and always tried
to figure out what is was. Challenger also used science to solve problems and to get the
group out of trouble spots. The expedition had relied on Challenger's scientific knowledge to
get them out of tough spots.
Challenger had a wife back home in London. The two of them never had children, a decision
Challenger has come to regret.
