email interview with kyle of closet monster
1. Give a quick description of who you are in the
band, and the style of
music your band plays.
I'm Kyle, I'm the drummer. Also in the band is Jesse the strummer, and London the slapper. We're a politi-pop-punk band, for lack of a better (or more coherent) term.
2. If you were given one million dollars, would you
sign to a major record
label, such as Sony? If yes, why?
Yeah, I think we would. I'd like to think that I can do this for a living, but all we'd want is to put out records and play, and we'd still be broke anyway. We'd split the million three ways, and London would lose his gambling, Jesse would blow his on drugs and guitar strings, and I'd probably get some liposuction and a nose job.
3. When you were five years old, who were your
favourite bands?
There weren't any others. There was Wham!, and that was it.
4. What would you rather do, tour the country or
record an album?
I really like both, but I think I'd personally pick touring, because of all the people I'd see and meet, and I love playing live, and I love seeing new shit everyday. It's the most awesome thing I've ever done.
5. Who do you think is the most talented punk/ska
band right now?
I don't know, but I have a lot of personal favorites. TOE, Marilyn's Vitamins, Good Riddance, Propagandhi, The Stiffs, Blank Stare, the list goes on. But it doesn't matter what I think, everyone has favorites.
6. When on the john, do you fold your toilet paper,
or scrunch it together?
Fold. But I'd like to try one of those things that shoots water. You know what I mean?
7. Is anyone in the band a vegetarian, or
straight-edge?
We're all vegetarians, no straight-edgers.
8. Where do you see your band in 10 years?
Las Vegas, heavily in debt.
9. Who was the best band you ever toured with? Who
was the worst?
I've liked all 5 bands we've toured with: The Implants, Marilyn's Vitamins, Ruth's Hat, 7-Teen, and Bun (so go see them if they play near you). They were all great bands and really great guys. We've been very lucky.
10. If a turtle loses it's shell, is it naked or
homeless?
Both, along with exceedingly stupid.
11. How did you get the name Closet Monster?
Well, there already was an "Oasis," and we had to be called something.
closet monster a really catchy pop punk trio that are from the greater toronto area. they are really good so check 'em out. i forget the url to their website, but i'll put it up soon. thanx to kyle for doing this interview.
