The courses are coordinated in Cuba by Stine Ortvad, professional dancer from Denmark. Her extensive experience of living and working in Cuba, has given her unique insights to the cuban culture. Stine trained at ENA, and has taught Salsa for sins 1980. Group classes are divided into different levels, depending on ability/experience. There is various study subjects and they all include Salsa, Afro-Cuban dance and modern Ballet, plus a host of instrumental topics, such as salsa piano and percussion at any level. Feel free to ask about the possibilities. In specific situations the Instrumental course can be tailor-made to suit your needs, and extra-curricular tuition ($US 10) is possible, as is Spanish tuition. The school boasts an excellent Salsa big-band, there are regular evening performances at the Café with visiting dance troupes or bands. The school is located in a queite suburb of Havana, away from the main tourist areas, enabling relaxed interchange with the many cubans for whom the school is a magnet. You will soon be making friends here. Typically, the tuition lies between 9 am and 1 pm, leaving time to take extra lessons or visit the many sights. Outings are arranged to Santeria displays, the legendary Cabarets, theatres, concerts, beaches and more. A typical schedule Monday - Friday 09.00 - 11.00 Modern ballet/ Afro-Cuban dance/Instrumental 11.00 - 13.00 Salsa/Instrumental 13.00 - 14.00 Lunch 14.00 - 16.00 Salsa/Instrumental (Extra classes $ 10 pr. hour) A two-week course cost $US 450, to be paid in Cuba. Accomodation | |
During the course, the participants stay at a small hotel, Casa de Fina , connected to the school, where breakfast and dinner are included. All rooms have a bathroom. Lunch is available, reasonable prices. The hotel is located 5 minutes walk from school campus, in an atmospheric residential street, fringed with tropical vegetation such as mangrove trees. It is possible to stay at the hotel, either before or after the course. It is also relatively easy to find private lodgings after the course, if you wish, through private agreement. We can’t help you directly with this, however, as it is not strictly legal in Cuba at this time. Nearby there is a local beach, and a luxury hotel, Palco, who welcomes visitors wanting to unwind in the bar or by the hotel swimming-pool. The food here is also above average for Cuba. Palco has a "Business Centre" from where it is possible to send and receive fax, do e-mailing and phoning home. All for a small fee. A few blocks away there is a large bank, which accept major credit cards (but with a maximum of $200 per day - advisable to bring cash). Valuables may be deposited with the Reception at Casa de Fina |
