How It All Began

Nick Carter, AJ McLean, and Howie Dorough were into the acting and entertaining business when they were younger and often saw each other at various auditions and rehearsals. Soon after, they formed a trio, and went to a man named Lou Pearlman for a record deal. Pearlman thought the group needed more voices to make the harmonies richer, so along with Pearlman, the three aspiring troubadors sought out two more singers to add to their group, which they later named the Backstreet Boys. Kevin Richardson, who was working at Disney at the time, got the call, as well as his cousin, Southern boy Brian Littrell, to join up with Carter, McLean, and Dorough. They eventually became the Orlando fivesome known world-wide today as the Backstreet Boys.
