Woman, Women, W O M A N!!! ooooh woman!
Just a single word Oh but so many meanings Filled with the mysteries of life
The secrets of the universe All tied together in just that one word
| women | |
So few of us in power Yet when we are empowered We become unstoppable Some think of us as the weaker sex And push to make all of us believe That when God created women It was adam we were to please
| women | |
We are the first educators of the children The keepers of the human race Yet in many places
To be a woman Is considered a disgrace
| women | |
For several generations Many have been downtrodden or abused Often living in poverty
Or discarded like old shoes. Whatever did we do?
| women | |
From the beginning of time When God created the universe He placed the mysteries and Sacredness of life Deep within our souls It was to us the survival of the human race This precious gift He did bestow
| women | |
Throughout the generations gone It is women who have kept the families strong Keeping home and hearth alive As men have gone to hunt or war To keep our dreams and pride
| women | |
The time has come to take our rightful place Neither above nor behind our fellow men
But beside him As the two wings of a bird Both are needed if its flight is to be strong and sure
| women | |
God created two miracles When He brought the universe into being For in life everything has to have a balance Both men and women are needed To make the vision complete
| women | |
The celebration of this day is not to debase our fellow men But an honoring of the station we have been given To encourage us to grow and find our equal voice To teach and share the sacred gifts God gave us
| women | |
For many years I never gave a single thought To our lot It never really mattered You're born a woman, so what But as I grow and mature I've come to recognize Our special qualities
| women | |
Compassion, caring, nurturing, healing Elements of our souls We need to celebrate and explore I never thought I'd see the day When I would stand up and publicly say Thank-you God for honoring me with this precious gift

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY March 8, 2002
PolarSunlight was requested to read selections from her poetry at the celebrations in her community for this special day...the above was written for this event.
Selections from the Baha'i Writings re Equality of Men and Women:
As long as women are prevented from attaining their highest possibilities, so long will men be unable to achieve the greatness which might be theirs.
(Abdu'l-Baha Paris Talks p. 133)
| And among the teachings of Baha'u'llah is the equality of women and men. The world of humanity has two wings -- one is women and the other men. Not until both wings are equally developed can the bird fly. Should one wing remain weak, flight is impossible.
(Abdu'l-Baha Selections from the Writings of Abdu'l-Baha p. 302)/b> |
Furthermore, the education of women
is of greater importance than the education of men,
for they are the mothers of the race,
and mothers rear the children. (Abdu'l-Baha The Promulgation of Universal Peace p. 175)
