Chapter 6
“Sabrina, dinner’s ready!” Alicia wasn’t a very good cook but she did her best for Sab. There was spaggetthi today on the menu. “Sab!”
“I’m coming!” She ran in the kitchen in black shorts and a white tank top. “What are you doing tonight?” She hoped they would go back to the boys house. They had spent a lot of time over there in the last two weeks. She and Nick were getting closer everyday and she still hadn’t tell Alicia about their relationship. She felt bad but she knew it was better that way.
“I’m going out with Brian. You’re going to be alright?” Alicia didn’t liked to leave Sabrina alone but after all she was almost 17 years old.
“Of course I am. Would it bother you if I would go out? A friend asked me to go to the movies tonight.”
“Sab, we already agreed that you wouldn’t go out on school nights. At what hour is the movie?” She was always worried about Sabrina’s safety. She felt very responsable for her.
“It’s at nine. But you’re right. I shouldn’t have asked you that. I’m gonna go tomorrow since it’s friday. Anyways, I have a lot of homework so I’ll stay put. Where are you going?”
“Actually, I don’t know. He says it’s a surprise. I’ll call you to say when I’ll be home. Now, I have to go change.”
“You’re not gonna eat with me?”
“Don’t have time! Next time, I promise.”
Alicia went in her room and started to think about Brian. Everything was going like in a dream. It was so perfect! She loved him so much. She wondered what was going to be the surprised. She put a small baby blue dress with white high heels and left her long blond hair fall on her shoulders. Then, the doorbell rang. She went to answer and was surprised by Justin. “Hey Justy! What are you doin’ here?” She gave him a hug and smiled.
“You look just great Alicia! I had a day off and decided to come visit you but it seems like you’re going out! May I ask who’s the lucky guy?”
“You know it’s Brian! He’s going to arrive any moment but let me introduce you to Sabrina before I go.” They went in the kitchen and Alicia introduced her too best friends. They started to chat like if they had known each other forever when Alicia saw Brian’s jeep outside. She gave kisses to both Justin and Sabrina. “Hey Justin, why don’t you stay here tonight? I have a day off too tomorrow, maybe we could do something?”
“Sorry baby but today was my day off and I have to go back. We have a big day tomorrow. Maybe some other time!”
“That’s fine, whenever you have some time off, just give me a call! Bye!” She closed the door but opened it again. “And Sab, don’t let anyone in OK?” She closed the door again before she heard Sabrina’s answer.
*In the jeep*
“Where are you taking me sweet heart?”
“It’s a surprise! You look fantastic Ali!” He took her hand and kissed her while driving. He had put a band over her eyes. They drived for about 10 minutes when they finally arrived.
“Can I take it off now?” She said, delighted by the mystery.
“No, not right away.” He lead her into a door, through several rooms and finally he made her sat on a chair. He took her head and kissed her. He then took off her band. They were in his house, in the dining room. He had plan a romantic dinner, with candles and he had even cooked her favotite pasta, fettucini alfredo. The lights were dim and a fire was burning in the fireplace. There was a nice slow music in the background. She looked at everything and tears of joy were streaming down her face when she looked up at Brian. He smiled at her, took her hand and she got up. They started dancing. They were both so happy.
*At Alicia’s and Sab’s appartment*
Sabrina was doing her homeworks when someone knocked on the door. “Come in!” She screamed from her room. She was surprised to see Nick entering her bedroom. “What are you doing here? If Alicia catches us she’s going to kill me! She could come back home any minute now!”
“She won’t come back before at least 12h00 because I was thrown out of the house for her! A romantic evening, that was Brian’s surprise!” He went to her on the bed and started rubbing her shoulders. “Don’t stress that much Sab. I personnally don’t think it would be so bad if she knew.”
She turned around. “That’s only because you don’t know her. She cares so much about me and I know she just wants me to be happy but I need some freedom and the only way to get it is to hide some things from her. We already discussed it and I won’t change my mind. Besides, I have a big English test tomorrow and I need to study. My grades dropped drastically since I’m here.”
“I’ll help you. I was kinda good in English.”
“Thanks for the offer but do you really think we’ll have some work done here? I don’t think so.” She looked at her book and felt very depressed. She was so tired of school and of being such a good girl. “You know what, screw the homework!” She jumped on him and they started kissing…..
*Two hours later*
“Shhhhh! I don’t want to wake her up!” It was 12h45. Brian and Alicia were back at Alicia’s appartment and he was holding her by the waist. He was kissing her on the neck and gently bitting her ear. “Brian, what’s that noise?” They heared something coming for Sabrina’s room. “Oh, it’s only her new CD. She must have felt asleep listning to it.” They walk to the door and she opened it, making sure not to wake her up. She looked inside and she saw them. Sabrina had feel asleep in Nick’s arms, still wearing her short but only a bra. Alicia looked at Brian and didn’t know what to say. Her eyes filled with tears, she ran to her bedroom and slammed the door. The noise woke up Sab and Nick, who saw Brian standing in the door.
“Come on Nick, it’s time to go.” He wasn’t mad at Nick but felt that what they had done was wrong. They should have told Alicia, whether or not she would have liked it. He thought that Alicia had been very nice to bring Sabrina with her in Orlando and he knew just how much she had trusted her.
Sabrina seemed in shock. Nick didn’t want to leave her but he knew she would have to talk to Alicia in private. He kissed her on the cheek and asked her to call him the next morning.
It took her a while to get the courage to go talk to Alicia. When she knocked on her door, she heared no answer. She opened the door and saw her looking out the window, still wearing her blue dress. “Alicia, I think we need to talk.” Alicia didn’t answer but Sabrina saw her shoulders shaking and she guessed her friend was crying. “I know what I’ve done was wrong and I should have told you. But I love him so much Ali…” She said in a little voice.
Alicia slowly turned around. Tears were running down her cheeks while she looked into Sabrina’s eyes. “I thought I was your best friend Sab. I really thought I was.” She started crying harder and she couldn’t control herself anymore. Sabrina tried to approch but she pushed her away. “I can’t believe you hide this from me. I trusted you with all my soul.” She shook her head and turned her back to Sabrina.
“I’m just so sorry Alicia. I had such a big feeling you wouldn’t agree, that you would try to keep me from seeing him. The thought of loosing him was tearing me apart. Now I realize that I might loose you and it hurts just as much. ”
Alicia stayed silent for a while. “Honestly, I can say that it might have been my first reaction. I mean, you are just 16 after all. The last thing I want is someone breaking your heart. But whatever my reaction would have been, you should have told me, just out of the respect I thought we had for each other. It will never be the same now Sabrina.”
Sabrina was getting desperate. “I made a mistake! I know it, you know it, Brian and Nick know it. I can’t take back what I’ve done and even if I wanted to change it, I can’t! Do you want me to leave? I mean, to return to Canada?”
“I’ve always been honest with you Sab and I’m telling you that honestly, I don’t care. You can stay here, go live with Nick or go back to Canada. Do whatever you want. It’s your choice.”
Sabrina only nodded and went back to her room. She should have expected this reaction and she knew just how much Alicia must be going threw. She decided to stay in this appartment and try to fix things up with her best friend.
