Adam Copeland trained at Sully's Gym in Toronto. He was trained by Ron Hutchison and Sweet Daddy Siki. He won a "Why I Want To Be a Wrestler" contest from the Toronto Star to train for free when he was 17.

He has wanted to wrestle since he was 9 and he was very determined that he would do it. He grew up with Jason Reso (Christian) and they watched wrestling together.

When he started training, he tried to influence Jason to start as well. Finally, around 3 years later, Jason started. Jason wrestled under Christian Cage and Adam wrestled under Sexton Hardcastle and they teamed up to make the Suicide Blondes.

Adam was trained by Bret Hart while Jason was still doing indy's. Adam went through the WWF Training Camp. Once he was on T.V, he suggested Jason for the Training Camp.

On July 24, 1999, he defeated Jeff Jarrett at a Toronto house show at the Skydome for the Intercontinental Title. He had to defend it on Fully Loaded in Buffalo the next night and lost due to Gangrel's interference.
