SIGN OVER BETHLEHEM
|
~~CHRISTMAS EVE 2000~~
There have been weeks of warfare in the Holy Land ever since the Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation erupted on September 28, 2000. As Christmas approached, nearly 400 people had been killed and people were busy mourning the dead and wounded. This year was without any singing, Christmas lights or decorations, however, the annual Midnight Mass was still held in Saint Catherine's Church off Manger Square. There was also the annual procession headed by Michel Sabbah, Latin Patriarch of the Holy Land. On December 24, 2000, about 200 people gathered in the rainy Manger Square for the processions arrival from Jerusalem. During that time, a rainbow was visible over Bethlehem and formed an arch over the Square. What a magnificent reminder that no matter what we are facing, we can always place our hope in the promises of God. At the appropriate time, He always sends us His very best. As the birth of Jesus is celebrated, a beautiful rainbow hovers over the birthplace of the greatest gift God ever sent to man. How appropriate and truly glorious it is!
"I set my rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth."
Genesis 9:13
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." "For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."
John 3:16,17
