If you struggle with any sickness or chronic condition then you may have encountered feelings of fear and panic. Even if you don't have any health problems, you may still have experienced the impact of fear at some point in your life. Whenever we face difficulties of any kind, fear and panic can grip us. On the other hand, sometimes fear can attack us for no apparant reason at all. Anyone who has had a sudden panic attack knows what I am talking about. The symptoms can range in level of severity. Some people find that they experience sudden feelings of dizziness, nervousness, heart pounding, and chest pain accompanied by the fear of a possible heart attack. Others may find that they are experiencing a sense of dread or impending doom without any physical symptoms at all. Having chronic pain, there have been times when I have been fearful wondering how I was going to manage my life with my physical limitations. Eventually I learned that my fear only compounded my problems. Therefore, I gradually began to resist fear and in the process I discovered an increasing faith and peace of mind. Now, whenever I am treatened with feelings of fear, I tell myself that I will not be afraid. That sounds pretty simple but it is effective. I have learned the power of standing on God's word. Usually I do this by remembering certain verses and reciting them whenever I feel pressured or threatened by fear. Ocasionally, however, we might find ourselves experiencing the kind of fear that alerts us to danger. This, of course, should always be taken seriously. I believe that our instincts will let us know the difference between a fear that requires our attention and a fear that we should resist. Sometimes feelings of fear and panic can be produced by a chemical imbalance and can be successfully treated with the help of medication. Regardless of the reason behind a persons anxiety, it's nice to know that we don't have to be bound by these feelings. I will leave you with a poem that I wrote along with the following scripture verses that can help you whenever you find yourself feeling frightened or in a state of panic. Below you will also find a link to the Victory Garden website which gives excellent detailed information on this subject. I have included a few other good links as well. If you struggle with fear, the good news is that you can overcome it. Each time you resist your fears it gets a little bit easier and eventually fear will lose its hold over you.
God's peace be with you.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled
And do not be afraid.
John 14:27
For I am the Lord, your God,
Who takes hold of your right hand
And says to you, DO NOT FEAR;
I will help you.
Isaiah 41:13
And the peace of God,
Which transcends all understanding,
Will guard your hearts and
Your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:7
Why was I afraid?
It didn't make much sense.
My mind was always anxious,
With my body always tense.
I opened up my bible,
Then I began to pray.
I resisted every fear,
Until they went away.
Now I know the truth,
Fear can't keep me bound.
I'm standing on God's word,
And Victory I found.
