WELCOME TO THE YEAR 2000
A NEW YEARS TOAST
May you get a clean bill of health from your dentist, your cardiologist, your gastro-endocrinologist, your urologist, your proctologist, your podiatrist, your psychiatrist, your gynecologist, your plumber and the IRS.
May your hair, your teeth, your face-lift, your abs and your stocks not fall; and may your blood pressure, your triglycerides, your cholesterol, your white blood count and your mortgage interest not rise.
May Friday evening, December 31st, find you seated around the dinner table, together with your beloved family and/or cherished friends, ushering in the New Year ahead. May you find the food better, the environment quieter, the cost much cheaper, and the pleasure much more fulfilling than anything else you might ordinarily do that night.
May you wake up on January 1st, finding that the world has not turned into micro chip chaos; the lights work, the water faucets flow, and the sky has not fallen.
May you ponder on January 4th; How did this ultra modern civilization of ours manage to get itself traumatized by a possible slip of a blip on a chip made out of sand.
May we relax about the future and realize that God is still in control not the computer. In His timing and in His eyes the computer will be obsolete and inconsequential but we will not be.
May He give you the strength to go through a year of presidential campaigning, and may some of the promises made by kept.
May what you see in the mirror delight you, and may what others see in you delight them.
May someone love you enough to forgive your faults, be blind to your blemishes, and may you be able to do the same for them.
May the telemarketers wait to make their sales calls until you finish dinner, and may your check book and your budget balance, and may they both include generous amounts for charity.
May you remember to say "I love you" at least once a day to your loved ones and friends.
May we live as God intended, in a world at peace with the awareness of His love in every sunset, every flower's unfolding petals, every baby's smile, and every wonderful, astonishing, miraculous beat of our heart.
As we start a new year
Untouched and unmarred
Unblemished and flawless
Unscratched and unscarrred
May we try to do better
And accomplish much more
And be kinder and wiser
Than in the year gone before
Let us wipe our slates clean
And start over again
For God gives this privilege
To all sincere men
Who will humbly admit
They have failed many ways
But are willing to try
And improve these "new days"
By asking God's help
In all that they do
And counting on Him
To refresh and renew
Their courage and faith
When things go wrong
And the way seems dark
And the road rough and long
What will you do
With this year that's so new???
The choice is yours
God leaves that to you!
