My Favourite Musical Artists and Groups

How does someone narrow their favourite performers down to a list? It's not easy, when there are so many excellent choices, but I did it!!!

" THE GALS "

#1. SHANIA TWAIN

In person, Shania Twain, 33, is tinier than her mega-star persona. Her sienna-colored hair is shoulder-length, and her eyes are olive green. The object of many a male fantasy, she seems far removed from the teasin', squeezin' country music sex symbol, and devoid of diva-like behavior. "I'm definitely strong-willed," she says. "It's very much my personality to be ambitious. But I'm not the tantrum type."

Shania was promoting her third CD (Come On Over) through 1998 and 1999. It has sold more than 6 million copies and made Twain a certified pop idol.

And although critics in Nashville said she refused to tour because she couldn't sing outside the studio, Shania says she waited until she had enough original material for her two-hour show, which grossed $34 million in 1998.

Shania's Discography

My Favourite Shania Twain song:

~ From This Moment ~

(I do swear that I'll aways be there. I'd give anything and everything and I will always care. Through weakness and strength, happiness and sorrow, for better or worse, I will love you with every beat of my heart.)

From this moment life has begun
From this moment you are the one
Right beside you is where I belong
From this moment on

From this moment I have been blessed
I live only for your happiness
And for your love I'd give my last breath
From this moment on

I give my hand to you with all my heart
Can't wait to live my life with you, can't wait to start
You and I will never be apart
My dreams came true because of you

From this moment as long as I live
I will love you, I promise you this
There is nothing I wouldn't give
From this moment on

You're the reason I believe in love
And you're the answer to my prayers from up above
All we need is just the two of us
My dreams came true because of you

From this moment as long as I live
I will love you, I promise you this
From this moment
I will love you as long as I live
From this moment on

AMANADA MARSHALL

At the age of 23, Canadian born "Amanda Marshall" is already becoming a music sensation. Her self titled debut album "Amanda Marshall" was nominated for a Juno in 1996 for Best New Solo Artist, and has sold over 1,000,000 copies.

My Favourite Amanda Marshall song:

~ Beautiful Goodbye ~

Fed up with my destiny
And this place of no return
Think I'll take another day
And slowly watch it burn
It doesn't really matter how the time goes by
Cause I still remember you and I
And that beautiful goodbye

We staggered through these empty streets
Laughing arm in arm
The night had made a mess of me
Your confession kept me warm
And I don't really miss you, I just need to know
Do you ever think of you and I
And that beautiful goodbye

When I see you now I wonder how
I could've watched you walk away
If I let you down
Please forgive me now
For that beautiful goodbye

In these days of no regrets
I'll keep mine to myself
And all the things we never said
I can say for someone else
Cause nothing lasts forever, but we always try,
And I just can't help but wonder why
We let it pass us by

When I see you know
I wonder how
I could've watched you walk away
If I let you down
Please forgive me now
For that beautiful goodbye

" THE GUYS "

#1. CHRIS DEBURGH

An art-rocker that occasionally writes pop-oriented material, Chris De Burgh has never been as popular in his native Britain or the United States as he was in other areas of the world!!

In the US, he's only had two Top 40 hits -- 1983's "Don't Pay the Ferryman" (number 34) and the number three ballad "The Lady in Red" (1987). In Britain, he's had the same number of Top 40 singles -- "The Lady in Red" was a number one hit and "Missing You" peaked at number three -- yet he's had a number of minor hits. Nevertheless, he has gained an astounding popularity in other countries, particularly Canada, Norway and Brazil.

Chris DeBurgh Discography

My Favourite Chris DeBurgh Song

~ Don't Pay The Ferryman ~

It was late at night on the open road,
Speeding like a man on the run,
A lifetime spent preparing for the journey;
He is closer now and the search is on,
Reading from a map in the mind,
Yes there's the ragged hill,
And there's the boat on the river.
And when the rain came down,
He heard a wild dog howl,
There were voices in the night - "Don't do it!"
Voices out of sight - "Don't do it!
Too many men have failed before,
Whatever you do,

Don't pay the ferryman,
Don't even fix a price,
Don't pay the ferryman,
Until he gets you to the other side;"

In the rolling mist, then he gets on board,
Now there'll be no turning back,
Beware that hooded old man at the rudder,
And then the lightning flashed, and the thunder roared,
And people calling out his name,
And dancing bones that jabbered and a-moaned
On the water.
And then the ferryman said,
"There is trouble ahead,
So you must pay me now," - "Don't do it!"
"You must pay me now," - "Don't do it!"
And still that voice came from beyond,
"Whatever you do,

Don't pay the ferryman,
Don't even fix a price,
Don't pay the ferryman,
Until he gets you to the other side;
Don't pay - the ferryman!"

BRYAN ADAMS

With his trademark white t-shirt and blue jeans, Bryan Adams may have looked like a regular guy. But his incredible gift for radio-friendly pop hooks made him the most successful artist exported from Canada in the eighties.

Bryan Adams has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, enjoyed two dozen hit singles in the U.S., achieved #l status in over 30 countries and received three Academy Award nominations.

My Favourite Bryan Adams Song

~ Comin' Home ~

All those nights I've spent alone
Uninspired, to tired and wasted,
There's lots of times
I'd have telephoned,
I couldn't find the words to say them.
I'm comin' home, Lord, I'm comin' home. Make it up to you, I mean it.
I'm not the same guy I used to be,
What can I do to make you believe it?
Comin' home, I'm comin' home,
Comin' home, I'm comin' home.

Only seems like yesterday,
You and I were sayin' good-bye.
Now I'm just a few miles away,
Gonna see you tonight.

I've been alone and I've lived the pain,
I reached for you in desperatin.
I was wrong - I'll take the blame,
I need you back now, I just can't wait.
I'm comin' home, yeah, I'm comin' home,
Won't you wait, I'm comin' home,
Comin' home, wait it out,
Comin' home.

" THE BANDS "

THE EAGLES

The Eagles brought country and western music to the popular listening audience. They helped evolve the deep south American sound and gain recognition for easy guitars and soft rock music, all around the world.

In their relatively short lifespan (together), they engineered the unique sound of country music and inspired a multitude of musicians to follow in their footsteps, crafting rock and country effortlessly into precious ballads, hard hitting rock songs and transcendental anthems.

My Favourite Eagles Song

~ Take It Easy ~

Well, I'm running down the road
tryin' to loosen my load
I've got seven women on my mind,
Four that wanna own me,
Two that wanna stone me,
One says she's a friend of mine
Take It easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels
drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
Don't even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand
And take it easy

Well, I'm a standing on a corner
in Winslow, Arizona
And such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord, in a flatbed Ford
Slowin' down to take a look at me
Come on, baby, don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is gonna save me
We may lose and we may win though
We will never be here again
So open up, I'm climbin' in,
So take it easy

Well I'm running down the road trying to loosen my load,
Got a world of trouble on my mind
Lookin' for a lover who won't blow my cover,
She's so hard to find
Take it easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels
Make you crazy
Come on baby, don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is gonna save me,
oh oh oh
Oh we got it easy
We oughta take it easy

BLUE RODEO

This country-rock quintet is loved in Canada. Fans welcome Blue Rodeo's decade-long career of making cosmic country rock sound neither country or rock.

From the first note of that round-the-neck harmonica holder, Jim Cuddy also is always in fine voice, especially amazing in the country-soul ballad called "Try".

Although Blue Rodeo has yet to woo the US audiences, their brilliant obvious talent is a real treat to be sampled by everyone.

My Favourite Blue Rodeo Song

~ Til I Am Myself Again ~

I want to know where my confidence went
One day it all disappeared
And I'm lying in a hotel room miles away
Voices next door in my ear
Daytime's a drag
Nighttime worse
Hope that I can get home soon
But the half-finished bottles of inspiration
Lie like ghosts in my room
I want to go
I know I can't stay
But I don't want to run
Feeling this way
Til I am myself
Til I am myself
Til I am myself again

There's a seat on the corner I keep every night
Wait til the evening begins
I feel like a stranger from another world
But at least I'm living again
There are nights full of anger
Words that are thrown
Tempers that are shattered and thin
And the moments of magic
Are just too short
They're over before they begin
I know it's time
One big step
I can't go
I'm not ready yet
Til I am myself
Til I am myself
Til I am myself again

I had a dream that my house was on fire
People laughed while it burned
I tried to run but my legs were numb
I had to wait til the feeling returned
I don't need a doctor to figure it out
I know what's passing me by
When I look in the mirror
Sometimes I see traces of some other guy
I want to go
I know I can't stay
But I don't want to run
Feeling this way
Til I am myself
Til I am myself
Til I am myself again
