Summer Prosperity Spell
July 20th, 2006

Color of the day: Crimson
Incense of the day: Chrysanthemum

In July, the countryside throbs with life. Bees and
hummingbirds are busy, and the air is scented with
herbs and honeysuckle. This spell combines money-
attracting herbs of the summer season to draw in abundance.
Combine one part each of basil, dill, and mint. Finely chop the
leaves and dry them on a paper towel, or heat them in
the microwave for a few seconds on medium. Crumble
together the herbs on a piece of cheese-cloth and
tie it all up with green ribbon. Anoint three green candles
with olive oil and light them. Holding the charm
bag before the flames announce in a clear voice:

Herbs of protection, herbs of healing,
herbs of wealth,
Bring me just enough prosperity.
With harm to none,
So mote it be.

A House Spirit Spell
January 14th, 2004

Color of the day: Brown
Incense of the day: Maple

Ancient Romans honored their guardian house spirits at this time of year. To
communicate with or to attract a house spirit, set a small, appealing statue in
a special place in your home. Before it, place a small heatproof dish, and burn
some of your favorite incense, saying:

Welcome gentle spirit, guard my home.
Please guard the cradle, hearth, and every room.

House spirits love attention. Leave a bit of food or burn some incense in its
bowl as an offering. At least once a year, usually in January, pay special
tribute by serving your family a meal in your spirit's honor.
Pork, wine, and cakes are appropriate items to serve.

Grounding Spell
January 19th, 2004

Color of the day: Gray
Incense of the day: Coriander

During this Capricorn Moon in the middle of winter, you can warm your bones
and set strong foundations for your good intentions in the coming year. To
prepare for this spell, find a special rock and cleanse and prepare it for
magical work. Make a fire, or light a few candles on your altar. Get in touch
with your body by stretching out on the floor. When you feel grounded, go to
your altar, and place the rock in a spot facing north. Visualize yourself with
roots going down into the earth, and say:

Sacred rock, ground me.
Help me set a course for the year ahead.

A Lover's Divination
January 20th, 2004

Color of the day: Maroon
Incense of the day: Poplar

January 20 on the Eve of St. Agnes is one of the most famous nights in the
whole calendar for love divination. This sure-fire spell dates back hundreds of
years. To start, fast all day, and do not engage in any frivolous conversation.
Most importantly, do not let anyone kiss you. At bedtime, dress in your best
night clothes. Boil an egg until the yolk is hard. Remove the yolk, fill the
cavity with salt, and eat it. Walk backward to bed saying:

Fair St. Agnes, play thy part,
and send to me my own sweetheart.

Not in his best or worst array,
but in the clothes he wears every day.

You will dream of your future spouse. Tell no one!

Work Opportunity Spell
January 21st, 2004

Color of the day: Yellow
Incense of the day: Pine

Do you want advancement in your current career? Or are you seeking a whole new
career? This New Moon can be the beginning of the physical manifestation of your
answer to these questions. Therefore, you need to take care now. Keep in mind
that the universe may show you it has other plans for you. Plot out the steps
that you will need to take to get from point A (where you are now) to Point B
(your desired end goal). Be realistic and specific in what you ask for. Light a
gold candle, and place a tiger's-eye in front of it. State these or similar words:

Capricorn's Moon,
Beginning and new,
Your wisdom guides me
in all that I do.

Touch the thumbs and forefingers of both hands together to form a triangle.
Center the triangle over the tiger's-eye. Visualize yourself completing the steps
necessary to reach your goal. Project your intent into the tiger's-eye. Extinguish
the candle. Carry the tiger's-eye until your goal is achieved or you have an answer.

Holiday lore: The lunar new year traditionally celebrates the planet's renewed
fertility. In China, during the fifteen-day waxing Moon, celebrants eat food,
sing and dance, and promote happiness, health, fertility, and fortune for the
year. In the spirit of setting things straight, all debts should be paid off
now, and houses cleaned and draped with red flowers, banners, and decorations;
red is considered lucky and dispels demons. Celebrants also avoid using
swearwords during this season, lest they bring ill fortune to themselves, and
parents warn children against blurting out such inauspicious words as
"death" or "disaster," or anything of similar sentiment.
