John SEARS born about 1750 in King & Queen Co, VA. and died 1831 in Randolph Co, MO. John is buried in Hurt Cemetery near Mt. Airy, MO.

He was a Revolutionary War soldier. He enlisted in 1777 as a Private in Captain Moores company, 10th Regiment. He was born in Virginia, and died in Missouri. The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Volume 73.

He is listed as being a land owner in Randolph Co., MO.

He married Matilda Mary Hobson on October 7, 1787 in Wake Co, NC. Matilda was born in 1760 in King & Queen Co., VA. She died in 1829 in Warren Co, KY. They had the following children:

Next is the lineage of John Joseph Sears born 1798 Orange County, NC and died July 1866 near Gifford, Macon CO., MO. He is the probable son of Henry Sears & Elizabeth Chandler Sears.

Joseph settled on a farm North of Fayette, Richmond Township, Howard Co., MO. in 1821. He was a Howard County Court Judge in 1826 and also for several years a Justice of the Peace. He was an active member of the Fayette Methodist Church. The "History of Howard and Cooper Counties, Missouri" (1883) states that, "Joseph Sears was a farmer, and for several years a Justice of the Peace....He was a devoted Methodist and as a man and Christian was much beloved by all classes of society."

In 1832 John moved to Macon Co., MO. settling in Easley Township, but had a post office address of Newburg, Richland Township.

The minutes of a meeting were published in "The Randolph Citizen" on June 28, 1855 indicating that John Sears along with seven others, was appointed a delegate to the Pro-Slavery Convention to be held at Lexington, MO. on July 12, 1855.

John Joseph married Elizabeth Kerby on June 17, 1821 in Howard County, MO. by Charles Merryman.

Elizabeth was born in 1804 in Warren CO., KY. and she died July of 1888 near Gifford, Macon CO., MO.

John Joseph Sears and Elizabeth (Kerby) Sears had the following children:
