Welcome to Tulpehauken. My name is Thomas McKibben, Called A Far Walking Blue Turtle, or just Blue Turtle by my friends. I am a Wolf Song Peace Elder of mixed Unami Lenape, "Turtle sept of the Delaware" and Scotch-Irish descent.
One of the first lessons that I ever learned in this life came from the lips of my Elders. That lesson was to give to others graciously and with a happy heart, that which was given you. In this way you show your appreciation for those gifts. You will see by my links that I spend much time giving tribute to those who have touched my life with love and wisdom. This too is the way of the people, lest we forget their precious gifts and allow them to turn to nothing, thus making their touching of our hearts meaningless. So come on in, pet the dog and pull up a log and sit a spell by the fire, kick off your shoes and roast your toes, and I will share a few stories and poems with you. What do you have to lose? It's only time. Your going to use it all up any way.
Like Humsa's favorite saying went, "The only way you can really get ahead on this earth, is to point your nose towards the rising Sun, and run like hell! At least you'll be traveling a little faster than the world is spinning!"
click on stories to reveal more stories When I was a child my Great-grandparents always cautioned me to never ask why. They said that you should accept all things as lessons and be grateful enough for this opportunity of life to search out the meanings of the happenings. Well I tried to live up to their advice, but as I got older, I started to notice so many bewildering changes, that I was moved to write this poem.
There are many special people who touch our lives during this trek upon Earth. To each of them I say, Wanishi! (Thank you!) These pages are dedicated to you.
This page is for the children, but perhaps the parents should read it too!
O
Alas!
Oh gosh!
Oh my! Oh me!
Came sad laments
from the old pine tree.
About my roots can you see
all things moving, except me.
There is even life you cannot see,
worms and bugs who are moving free.
Animals, birds and insects all feed from me.
Consuming seed, water and air all given free.
All given limbs so unlike me, giving them mobility.
And so I ask you Great Creator, How can this be?
Don't
you
love
such
as me?
Then came a Voice from the great beyond, saying, "Be patient my dear Pine tree,
Be patient and you soon will see, that they who take so much for free, will not live as long as thee. Their dust shall soon feed your roots as fuel for those yet to become, thus you shall see My will be done. Such My love for you dear tree, you are a lesson of harmony.
