First Day of School

It was time for school again. Very few cats were out of cat school.
The toms were cool looking, in basic jeans and hot leather jackets. The backs of their leather jackets said something about the group they hung with.
Pouncival pulled down his sunglasses as the bell for school was about to ring. Matty ran over along with Travisina, and following were three goofballs known as Jonathan, george and James. Already with Pouncival was Tumblebrutus.
“Heya Pouncival,” Matty said cooly. Travie waved as she came closer.
“’Eya boomer!” James yelled. “’ow ya been doin’?” Pouncival just looked away as if he didn’t know him.
“Hey, I made a vow this year,” Jonathan said. They all looked at him with a ‘yeah right’ exspression. “This year, I’m not letting the dumb teachers push me around.” The group rolled their eyes.
“This year I’m not falling out of the box when I’m making out with a queen,” George added, a little more shyer. “You’re lucky Pounce. You don’t have to worry about that stuff. You’re too cool.”
“This is true,” he said.
The bell rang and they all ran for the doors. Once they got to their lockers, which they found were close to each other, they gathered. “Who you after this year?” Tumblebrutus asked Jonathan.
“That cute Calico one,” he said, pointing to Timber, who was with her teeny-bopper friends surrounding the Rum Tum Tugger.
“It’ll be hard,” Tumble said. “I’m still after that cute young one,” he put in, pointing to Jemima, also drooling over to the Tugger. The second bell rang, but they stayed in the hall. Matty and Travie started off, but Miss Jennyanydots popped out of her room and everyone started off, but Jonathan was last to follow, and she caught them.
“Excuse me young tom, what are you doing?” she asked rudely.
“I’m heading to class?”
“I saw you in the hall, correct?”
“Yes ma’am.”
“Then get going!” she snapped.
“Yes ma’am. He skittered off and she went back in her room.
“You showed her!” Pouncival yelled with a grin. The cats snickered.
“That’ll teach ‘er!” Matty added with laughs.
When they got into homeroom, there was all kinds of trouble. Bubble gum, paper airplanes, frogs and catnip. Then Mr. Munkustrap stepped in and snapped his tail quick and sudden. Everyone stopped.
“Welcome back Kittens,” he said. “I’m glad none of you have dropped out yet. We’re going to start out this week with—Excuse me, Jonathan, did you have something to say?”
Jonathan stopped whispering to the cat next to him, who was a hyper orange and black queen, who looked straight and strict when Mr. Munkus looked at them. “No sir,” Jonathan answered finally. Mr.Munkus turned to the board and started to talk again. Pouncival and his friends began to snicker again, whispering “Good show!”
Suddenly the door swung open. It was the Rum Tum Tugger. He went behind the teacher’s desk for a mirror. “Please be seated.” He did so. “How are you all feeling?” They groaned. “That’s very direct." All the queens beganto giggle. Jemima looked as though she would die, for her seat was next to Tugger’s, and she was swooning happily.
At lunch Cassandra and her more ‘popular’ friends sat at their own table. There was Bombalurina, Demeter, Victoria and some other cats, Pearl, Emerald and Ruby. Pouncival walked over smoothly. “Wanna do soemthin’ tonight sweet thang?” he directed at Bombalurina.
“Get a life, dweeb!” Pouncival turned away and shrugged.
“Her loss.”
“She’s a loser,” his frineds said, patting him and trying to comfort him. He snapped his fingers and they all sat down.
Meanwhile, Alonzo, Mungojerrie, Plato and Admetus were sitting at a table discussing who the hottest queens this year were.
“It’s definetly Victoria,” Mungojerrie noted. “Bombalurina by far!” Alonzo shouted a little too loud. Pouncival walked over with a stiff face. He pulled Alonzo by the collar.
“Stay away from my queen.” He pushed Alonzo over to his buddies. He stumbled backwards.
“He better watch out.”
After school, Pouncival walked out and leaned against the tree, attempting to get a date. Jemima ran over to him and his friends. “Isn’t she dreamy?” Tumblebrutus asked.
“Yeah, she’s cute.” She ran over full of excitement.
“Hey Pouncival! Wanna go to the Ice Cream Shoppe With me?”
“Sure sweety,” Pouncival replied. she giggled with glee as he took her paw. “See ya guys.” They waved. Tumble sat in the grass pouting.
“He’s so lucky.”
“Hey Tumb. Maybe next time,” matty tried to comfort him. “Now if you don’t mind, I got a date with Mungojerrie.” She ran off. “What’s up doo?” Mungo asked Tumblebrutus.
“Nothing,” Tumble grumbled.
“Lonely?” Matty asked, sitting next to him.
Suddenly he burst all his feelings. “The only queen I ever want in my love life has stepped off with my best friend.” Matty tried to cheer him up.
“She’ll come to her senses. If it’s meant to be, than it will. Do not worry so.” Tumble looked up with a tear.
“Thanks you two. But let’s face it. I’m destined to be alone.” He stumbled away sadly. Matty looked to her boy friend and he looked back.
“We have to do something.” Mungo nodded. They ran to find their friends.
“What d’ya mean? You sayin’ I have to break my date with a cutie?” Pouncival said annoyed.
“For Tumble?” matty gave him big puppy eyes. Pouncival still like Matty after they broke up, so he let in.
“For Tumble,” He agreed.
“Now, we need to get this right. Jemima likes Tumble correct?”
“I think she likes me,” Pouncival noted.
“She just thinks your hot.”
“Yep, yep, yep. I’m a real hottie,” he said, with a big grin, sounding relaxed.
Matty rolled her eyes. “And Tumble likes Jemima. We gotta get them together!”
“No we don’t!” Jonathan exclaimed. He wanted Jemima. Just as Matty was about to add something, someone came up behind her and pushed her.
“Hey!” she whipped around. There was Emerald, Ruby and Pearl. Three Siamese cats she couldn’t stand.
“Hi dirtbags,” Ruby snickered. Matty looked at her angrily.
“What d’you want?” she asked.
“Oh nothing. We just thought we’d bug the biggest losers in our school!” Emerald answered snidely.
“I don’t what you’re doing around here,” Mungojerrie snapped. “The dump is the other way!” Emerald, Ruby and Pearl looked shocked.
So Emerald changed the subject. “I bet you don’t have a date for the Autumn Dance!”
“We do so!” Travie said angrily.
“Who are the unlucky bastards?” Travie was lost at words from Ruby’s cursing.
“I’m going with Misto of course,” Travie said.
“I’m with Mungojerrie,” Matty replied with hesitation. She hadn’t actaully asked him yet.
“No, I’m with Tantomile,” Mungojerrie said.
“You have no date!” Pearl laughed.
“Wanna make somethin’ of it?” Matty asked ferociously, grabbing Pearl’s collar. She said nothing.
“I don’t know yet. Whoever asks me first,” Pouncival answered, still on the ‘I’m a hottie’ kick.
“We heard that the dork you call Tumblebrutus has no date.”
“Not yet,” Matty answered, immediately taking defense over her friend.
“What a dud!” Ruby laughed.
“You leave him alone!” Pouncival snapped. “He’s a good guy.”
They all cocked and eyebrow.
“Who are you going with?” Matty asked feircly. “Garbage cans and street lamps—oh wait, don’t wanna insult street lamps and garbage cans!”
“Good men from outta town,” Emerald said trying to make them jealous.
“They must be from outta town, cos this whole town knows you guys are bad news!” Traive said.
“You should shame yourslef. Talking that way to love-making goddesses,” Pearl warned.
“If we see them we’ll be careful,” Matty snarled. They only laughed.
“So where is the loser?”
“In front of us,” Pouncival snickered.
“Funny ha-ha,” Ruby said sarcastically. “Where’s the Tumblebrutus one?”
“He’s at his hou-“ Travie slapped her paw over Misto’s mouth.
“At his house?” Emerald grinned evilly, follwed my her sisters’ dark smiles as well.
“You leave him alone!” Misto cried, knowing he’d messed up. They laughed as they ran for Tumble’s house. Tumble was sulking on the front porch
“Hi Tumblebrutus,” Ruby said.
“No date?” Emerald mocked being sad.
“I’m not surprised,” Pearl sniggered.
“Just leave me alone,” Tumble muttered.
“Touchy are we?” Emerald asked mockingly again.
“Leave me alone!” he shouted through the tears.
“Little Tumbly loser depressed?” Ruby teased.
“Please!” he screamed. But they wouldn’t give up.
“Poor baby…” Peral smiled banefully.
“Leave me alone! I just got a letter that my mom died in the vet’s operation room!” Tumble yelled.
“Aw, yo miss your mommy?” Tumble didn’t say anything. But he burst into more tears.
Meanwhile, Matty, Misto, Mungojerrie, Travie and Pouncival were lost. The Siamese triplets had twisted and turned and successfully lost the five friends.
Back at Tumble’s he was crying so hard he was almost going to pass out.
“Your mom probably died off catnip.”
“She never loved you.”
“She was just a loser like you.”
“She was just a loser…” the voices went on from the cruel cats. Tumble had no come-backs for them. He just cried harder.
“Hey! Leave him alone!” ordered a sweet yet irate voice.
Ruby, Pearl, and Emerald looked over to Jemima, who was much smaller to them. They only laughed. “Why?” Ruby managed through her laughs.
“Cos he’s feelin’ bad, duh! Even idiots like you should be able to see that!”
“Lets show little Miss Perfect girls,” Emerald demanded. They nodded and went after Jemima with their fists heaved high. Ready to swat at Jemima with there large claws, Tumblebrutus cried after them.
“Hey you! Leave ‘er alone!” he jumped on Ruby and pulled her backwards. The other sisters when back and Jemima took on Pearl, the youngest of the trio. But Emeral, strongest of them all jumped at Tumblebrutus and threw him against the bench on the porch, knocking him out.
“Come on girls!” the three gathered up and ran off.
“Tumble!” Jemima cried. She ran to the little cat. At that time, Matty, Pouncival, Mungojerrie, Travie and Misto caught up with them.
“What happened?” Misto exclaimed.
“The Siamese attacked!” Jemima ascreamed.
“Again?” Mungojerrie asked, referring to years ago when the Siamese attacked Growltiger.
“Those little brats…” Matty tightened her fist madly.
“What happened to Tumble?” Travie asked worriedly, rushing next to Jemima. “Is he ok?”
“I don’t know,” Jemima whimpered. “But I hope so.”
“I’m fine, really,” Tumble managed. “Just a little dizzy.”
“Oh, thank Heavide!” Jemima said vehemently. She hugged him tight. “I thought I’d lose you!”
Tumble laughed. “From a little knockout? You worry too much!” Everyone laughed agreeably.
“I hope to see you at the dance?” Jemmie asked. Tumble nodded weekly and fell asleep in Jemmie’s lap.
