Edmonton has plenty to offer for the active and the "gee, I really should get active". It has the longest stretch of urban parkland in Canada, featuring 11,086 hectares of open space, which is 22 times larger than New York's Central Park

This Parkland includes 58km of bicycle paths and 399km of trails used by cyclists, joggers and those simply out for the pleasure of walking along it's beauty. Winter lovers (????) can enjoy cross country skiing on groomed trails and for those more daring - downhill skiing at one of 3 clubs that are integrated into the river valley systems is available. A golf fan???? Take your pick from over 50 courses in the Greater Edmonton Region including Canada's oldest municipal course - Victoria Golf Course. Many driving ranges, including indoor ones, are available. And for those like me who enjoy golf, but who's handicap consists of being on the course with a club in hand there is always the offering of mini golf - both in and outdoors. The Kinsmen Spots Centre - a world class sports facility - was designed to host swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and waterpolo competitions. It's attached Fieldhouse is used for soccer, track and tennis. The really good news is that it's also used for beerfests, concerts and trade shows. If you find that you are not quite up to competition speed, Edmonton has a speed and level for everyone's comfort with an offering of 18 swimming pools, 20 public arenas, 11 picnic sites, 64 school gyms, 90 tennis courts and 1300 sports fields.
