Fate & Regrets

Fate - it blew into our lives like a whisper on the wind

Two wounded birds not eager to trust bound together by a need. So different and yet so much alike. The early stages of Spring bringing the beginnings of warmth. A touch here and there. As we flitted through the early light and saw in each other small glimpses of life. Caught up in the rays of the sun until love, in spite of circumstance, unfolds. The riot of colours lit our lives. Swirling and catching on the air. We entwined the ribbons of our lives as we basked in the healing laughter. Leaning on the strength of the other.

Then the clouds of reality rolled in, slowly covering the light of the sun, muting colours. Rumblings of thunder echoed in the distance giving warning of what was coming nearer. Until lightening split through the dark shattering two lives like tiny shards of glass. Each one reflecting the etched-in pain. The wind whipped around so harsh, so cold. What once it held together it was now ripping apart. Two hearts flung from another and tossed about on the storm. Battling the distance that grew ever wider, but each becoming weaker. The voices growing dimmer until only silence could be heard.

In the aftermath we survey the damage left behind. Taking in the broken pieces and trying to see through the other's eyes. As the day comes to an end, we turn and look to the sky each expecting to see the coming darkness. Instead, we see the hues of a sunset woven together. Colors not with begining or end, but of a promise to not forget what has been.

Regrets - not then, not now, not ever, not one.
