How the Dragon Balls Work

The Dragon Balls are 7 orange balls. They each correspond to a number 1 through 7. You can tell which number a Dragon ball is by looking at how many stars are in the middle of the dragon ball. They are small palm size, about the size of a baseball. The one who collects all the dragon balls is able to summon Shenron, the eternal dragon. And he may grant you one wish. But, there are limitations. The dragon cannot grant a wish beyond the power of the creator of the dragon balls. Someone cannot be ressurrected more than once from the same set of Dragonballs. And finally once your wish has been granted, the dragon balls wil rise in the air, scatter all over the earth, and turn to stone for one year. The dragon balls were created by Kami, when he came to earth. Before ridding himself of all evil he created instinctively the 7 dragon balls and scattered them across the earth. But when Piccolo and Kami die, the dragon balls will disappear.

A second set of dragon balls exist as well on the planet Namek. Origin of Piccolo and Kami. This set was created by Master Guru, a wise old Namek. They are more powerful than the earthly ones and in turn are bigger, about the size of a bowling ball. These balls summon a bigger burlier dragon named Porunga who can grant three wishes instead of one. But one must know the password, which is Porunga. One must also ask his wishes in Namek, Porunga’s native tongue. Dende is able to summon Porunga, and the wishes were to resurrect Piccolo, and to bring him to Namek. Before Vegeta could wish for immortality Frieza killed Master Guru and Porunga in turn disappeared.
