RAHONTSI-SELAMAT had it's beginning in 1969, primarily as a working kennel. Our first Great Labrador was FTCH Pelican Lake Toby. Toby was a hard going, beautiful black and was also our resident couch potato. Sadly, we lost him to gastric torsion at age 7 1/2. He needed just 1 minor point to finish his CH when we lost him and was a Finalist in the 1972 Canadian National Retriever Trial. Toby's line can still be found back in the pedigree of some of our dogs.

In 1973 we obtained from Castlemore Kennels in Ireland a 10 week old chocolate female, sired by Eng. CH. Sandylands Mark (CH Castlemore Pride WC) (Tara). We were so impressed with Tara we also imported her litter brother CH Castlemore Bramble, also chocolate. The same year we purchased Wanapum-Dart's-Puget-Power, bred by Eddie Bauer. "Brown" was on the top derby list. At age seven we decided to put this "Veteran" in the conformation ring. He finished his CH quite handily and went on to sire several Champions for us and (like Tara and Bramble) was a superb gun dog.

These three labradors had a great influence on us and on labrador retrievers in Ontario and across Canada and the USA. They are still back in our pedigrees and are always kept in mind when we plan a litter.

We have bred and owned BISS labradors, BIS Winners, Numerous Champions, Dogs with UD titles, Nahra titles. personal gun dogs for happy owners and ideal family companions.

We Don't Count Titles..........We Count Happy Dog Owners!
