WORKER SAFETY FUND
Safety 1st is proud to sponser the Worker Safety Fund, but we cannot do it without your support. The fund has been developed to help under priviledged workers, students, and small businesses to achieve safety compliance goals and to upgrade skills. In short, the goal of the fund is to make every workplace safe, regardless of their size or financial situation.
The Worker Safety Fund dollars are allocated to the following 3 areas:
1) Students (Entering the workforce)
2) Skills Upgrading for persons currently out of work
3) Small Business that are not able to meet the financial obligations for required safety training and consulting programs.
Application to utilize this fund will be made as simple as possible. If the funds are in place, then the training or consulting program can be run once the person or company has met the criteria for the sector that they are applying for.
See below for a more detailed explanation as to the 3 sectors that the Worker Safety Fund will cover.
Please help us with your donation. Any amount is appreciated. You can donate online via paypal or a credit card by clicking the donate button, or mail a cheque to the address below. A receipt for your generosity will be issued promptly.
Section 1 - Students
The student portion of the fund is allocated in 2 ways.
A) Contacting the school boards and setting up a safety program for grade 11 and 12 students that will be entering the workforce. Currently, when a young adult enteres the workforce, they receive very little if any safety training. These young workers are very eager to please their supervisors or managers, but simply do not know the risks involved.
Safety 1st wishes to conduct WHMIS training, Back Safety, Fall Protection, and Workplace Safety Orientation through the high schools free of charge, but we cannot do this without your contributions.
B) Students who are entering the workforce, but have not had any formal safety training may apply to utilize the fund in order to receive the required safety training that they need in order to start their career.
Section 2 - Unemployed Workers
Many jobs require that the applicant has former safety training as a pre-requisite to start a career with a new company. With the unemployment rate as high as it is, this has become quite a limiting factor for someone who is looking for work, and many simply cannot afford to pay for a training program themselves. Current government assistance programs are not adequate, and are only able to help a very small percentage of people. Applicaton is easy, and approval for the Worker Safety Fund to pay for the program can usually be given within 1 day.
Section 3 - Small Businesses
Many small and medium size business, particularly family run companies are overwhelmed with the demands of the Occupational Health and Safety regulations and requirements to the point that the ability to grow is halted, and the company cannot afford to train their existing workforce. The worker safety fund will be used to help finance training and consulting programs based on the clients financial situation. Remember, many of your friends and family members work at small companies, and may be at risk due to lack of training and knowledge.
Please help us to make this world a safer place to live and work
