Spring Training

 

The Phillies will move from Clearwater's Jack Russell Stadium to a new facility at their Carpenter Complex training site in 2004. So come enjoy one of the more charming stadiums in the Grapefruit League while there's still time.

Jack Russell Memorial Stadium, located just north of downtown Clearwater on the corner of Greenwood and Seminole Streets, is the annual Spring Training home of the Philadelphia Phillies and the summer home of the Class-A Clearwater Phillies of the Florida State League.

The stadium, built in 1955, is an old-fashioned ballpark with modern amenities. The stadium has a seating capacity of 6,942 and features three concession stands, one luxury suite, a private field box, a state of the art workout facility and, of course, dozens of palm trees. The stadium is named in honor of the late Jack Russell, who, as a City Commissioner from 1951-55, was the driving force behind the stadium.

The Philadelphia Phillies have trained in Clearwater since 1947, the second longest tenure of any Grapefruit League team. Over the last six decades, countless Hall of Famers have played spring training games in Clearwater, including Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson, Brooks Robinson, Yogi Berra, Harmon Killebrew, Stan Musial, Ted Williams, Roberto Clemente and many more.
