Altorilievo.
Altorilievo is a
sculptural method in which the sculpted pieces
and figures remain attached to a solid
background , made of the same material, but
coming off of it with significant relief. The
technique that we used for our embroidery has
the same name for evident reasons. Embroidery is
always intended as something that it is added to
something else. Sequins on silk, pearls on
velvet etc
This time we had to think
to another process because everything had to be
built around the body, not to cover it, or hide
it, but to glorify movement and skin. The body
was the starting point of everything that came
afterwards as I wanted the body itself to be
part of the embroidery. For that reason also the
fabric we chose are very “humble” in a way.
Cotton and linen are worked out to softly caress
the skin and give depth and resonance to fabrics
that are commonly used for shirts or other very
basic garments. I really do think that fashion
has to push itself out of its comfort zone of
what is known to create something new and
relevant, or at least it has to try to do it.
And this is what I love the most about my job. I
want to thank again my team for supporting me in
this process and not so easy decision to change
the way we usually make and use embroidery.
Guess it was all worth it.
Lastly, I wanted Kaia to
open this collection because I really feel that
we are building a new narrative of our image
that resonates with the corresponding creative
ferment and that she is the perfect match for
that.
