Due to major spoiler coming up (the conclusion to the fight of Shishio and Kenshin), we warn you to leave right now.
After being burnt and slashed deeply countless of times from Shishio's ningen abuda (human oil) soaked sword (not mentioning the exploding gloves and the deep bite), Kenshin collasped and almost felt himself die away. Sanosuke felt the anger about to burst inside him when Shishio ordered Houji to get rid of the garbage on the floor. But in a split second, Saitou Hajime came rushing in, breaking the door down and struck Shishio right in the head. Unfortunately for Saitou (having bad injuries from the fight before), Shishio had a metal band surrounding his head in case anyone tries to kill him from the head again. Saitou ended up half dead as well. Just when hope was running out, Sanosuke couldn't take anymore of this nightmare and proved it by charging up against Shishio and tried to break Shishio's skull with the technique, Futae no Kiwami. Sanosuke ended up with a useless right hand and got knocked into the wall unconscious.
Shishio was about to leave after the satisfying fights with two very well-known hitokiri, Saitou and Kenshin. Just then, Aoshi appeared at the door. Everyone thought he was still fighting for the title of the strongest but in reality, he was buying time for Kenshin. Aoshi knew Shishio had a limit of 15 minutes of fighting or he will spontaneously combust. If you don't know what I mean, as I mentioned before, Shishio's body tempurature was not like any other human being. As he fights, the body tempurature will rise until it will reach its ultimate limit and he would die.
After fighting with Aoshi, Shishio noticed that Aoshi's techniques were annoyingly slow and at that moment, he finally realized that Aoshi was actually buying time for Kenshin, meaning he would take up some parts worth of the 15 minutes and leaving the remaing time for Kenshin to take care of. Shishio was about to finish Aoshi off until he saw Kenshin standing behind Aoshi but still unconscious. Yumi and Houji was terrified and practically begged Shishio to finish him off. Shishio didn't and was even happy that Kenshin was still alive to fight.
Suddenly the leaves were reacting to Kenshin's ki and Kenshin gained conscious. Houji literally thought Kenshin was immortal. Kenshin explained that he couldn't die just yet and he had many promises to keep and that he had to return to Tokyo with everyone. This was the final blow. Kenshin finally stood in his most powerful technique's position. With his left foot starting first, Shishio knew what technique Kenshin was going to use, the Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki. Shishio dodged it but apparently he was being dragged towards Kenshin and Kenshin struck Shishio with his sword (if you don't understand this part, scroll to the bottom of this page). Shishio was already half dead but Yumi came running and got in between Shishio and Kenshin. She begged for Kenshin to stop but Shishio stabbed his sword through Yumi's chest and the blade got Kenshin in the stomach. Yumi claimed she was happy that she made a difference in the battle and died. Shishio was going to finish Kenshin off but he reached his limit and his blood started to boil and eventually evaporate.
In one scene, Hiko explained that the technique, Amakeru Ryu no Hirameki was exactly like a dragon. If the dragon's prey were to escape the dragon's claws, (the part where Shishio blocked Kenshin's attack) The dragon will shred it's prey with its powerful jaws. Kenshin's attack caused the air to somewhat create a vacuum, a place with all gases removed, which dragged Shishio towards Kenshin to recieve his deadly attack, but with Kenshin using a sakabatou, Shishio didn't die yet.
