ENGLISH!!! Was it your favorite subject? It came so easy for me, that I never dreamed it could be so hard to teach! I have managed to teach my children how to read without too much strain (the hard part is waiting for them to be ready), but how to make them care about things like grammar and spelling was a major hurdle. Then my teen discovered chat rooms! OK, lol isn't a real spelling word, but when you misspell something in a teen chat, your friends lol at you. (lol means laugh out loud in chat-ese). Bulletin Boards and Newsgroups are another place your student can be published online, with surprising ease, and very immediate response. Also, there are many penpals waiting to be written to, and email is a fantastically quick and easy way to correspond. And talk about somebody who's a stickler for spelling and punctuation! Try leaving a letter or dot out of an URL sometime (That's the address to a website: http://www.yourURL.com). Computers are just about as particular as anybody could be. I used to think my kids just couldn't remember how to spell those words. Then I introduced them to my computer. I put spelling words in as passwords to their desktops... TADA!!! Instant spelling success! They just never really NEEDED to know how, before!
Enjoy using the sites I've listed here, and drop me a line (or have your student do it). God bless you,
