Attendance Issues at Family Ed

Attendance issues at Family Ed are based on class planning and management logistics, and Oregon State Laws and Administrative Rules involving home education and public school funding.

Full-time Family Ed students are those registered with Estacada High School, Estacada Junior High, or Clackamas River Elementary (forms available at Family Ed) who are in attendance at least 15 hours per week on a regular basis. These students are considered to be in full-time attendance in Estacada Public Schools. They do not need to register with Clackamas ESD as homeschoolers, nor are they required to take the standardized tests in the 3rd, 5th, 8th, and 10th grades required of homeschoolers in Oregon.

Those students taking fewer than 15 hours of Family Ed classes are considered to be homeschoolers taking advantage of Estacada School District offerings. They do need to be registered with Clackamas ESD as homeschoolers, and will need to take the standardized tests in 3rd, 5th, 8th, and 10th grades as provided by state compulsory attendance laws. There are some exceptions. These students may still be registered as part-time students of the Estacada School District, for purposes of transcripts, financial reimbursements to the District, insurance, etc.

Students who have been taking full-time classes and drop to part-time should notify the ESD of their status ASAP in order to remain in compliance with current state law.

Students not in attendance for two weeks of classes are considered to be dropped from the rolls, and must be re-registered.

Obviously, classes designed to accommodate the needs of each student will suffer when students are absent without notifying the teacher. Please inform teachers of your child’s absences as soon as possible.

Homeschool parents have the option of using Family Ed classes as if they were homeschool co-op classes. Students may join classes without registering with the school district, as long as parents remain on the premises during classes. It reduces confusion if siblings are also in class, and parents volunteer while they are in the building.

If you are interested in free or reduced-price lunches, please ask for forms. Sack lunches are provided daily for eligible low-income students, regardless of their enrollment status.
