A shy surfer who loves the water, Chad practically knew how to swim before he could walk. He is quiet and withdrawn around people, but he connects wonderfully with marine animals. He enjoys scuba diving early in the mornings before breakfast and interacting with the various marine life he's made "friends" with.
Chad's martial arts abilities do not hinder his outlook in life. He may be tough on the battlefield, but off it, everyone is his friend. Even those who challenge him. He prefers talking to using fists whenever possible, but knows that that cannot always be avoided. Chad's martial arts sensei has always disagreed with him taking a morpher opposed to tackling a life of martial arts like him. He began training one of the monsters in martial arts just to get back at him. Unknown to the sensei, the monster planned to use his new knowledge to defeat the rangers, and would have succeeded if Chad hadn't intervened. In the end, he made up with his sensei and his sensei was able to make peace with the fact that Chad would not be able to lead an entire life of martial arts. That at least he was doing good for others.
Being able to connect with marine life has help Chad in different areas. He had a great relationship with Marina, a mermaid. As much as he loved her, he knew things would never be between them and let her go. Later on, he helped her father, King Neptune, take his trident back from Bansheera who's purpose was to use it for evil. He also got back together with Marina, understand that even if they can't be together forever, they will always have this moment.
In the end, Chad is last seen running off with his fellow teammates to help civilians, and perhaps reclaim their former jobs while helping or volunteering in their spare time.
