ANOUNCING MONEY GIVINGS OPENINGLY

Pastor Rick says "Thank you Mr. Smith for giving $1.000.00 for our new building project. We are going to put up a brick with your name to reward you."

The Bible Says Jesus Spoke In Matthew 6:1-4 & 6:24

Matt. 6:1 Take heed that ye do not your alms [ giving ] before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

Matt. 6:2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms [ giving ] , do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Matt. 6:3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth.

Matt. 6:4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

Matt. 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

The Love of Money

SERVING GOD OR MAMMON
(god of money)?
Or Obeying God's Word?

Jesus Spoke in Luke 16:1-9
Luke 16:1 And he said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods.

Luke 16:2 And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward. Luke 16:3 Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do? for my lord taketh away from me the stewardship: I cannot dig; to beg I am ashamed.

Luke 16:4 I am resolved what to do, that, when I am put out of the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.

Luke 16:5 So he called every one of his lord's debtors unto him, and said unto the first, How much owest thou unto my lord?

Luke 16:6 And he said, An hundred measures of oil. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and sit down quickly, and write fifty.

Luke 16:7 Then said he to another, And how much owest thou? And he said, An hundred measures of wheat. And he said unto him, Take thy bill, and write fourscore.

Luke 16:8 And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light.

Luke 16:9 And I say unto you, Make to yourselves not friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.

Should Christians Borrow Money???

When you borrow money -- you are promising away future income that does not belong to you! Why do you think they call them "promissory notes!"

Proverbs 27:1 "Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth."

James 4:13-14 "Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money." Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow."

In the Bible, God's people were to lend and/or give to their own people in need without interest, or usury. [read Deut 23:20. [other references include; Exod 22:25; Lev 25:36,37; Deut 23:19,20; Neh 5:7; Prov 28:8; Ezek 18:13,17; 22:12]

When we follow God's ways, we are successful! "So, do not worry, saying 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you as well." Matt 6:31-33.

STORY OF KING JEHOASH
AND THE SIN MONEY

The Bible Says In: 2 Kings 12:1-21

2 KINGS 12:1 In the seventh year of Jehu Jehoash began to reign; and forty years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.

2 KINGS 12:2 And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

SINS OF OTHER IDOL GODS STILL IN THE LAND
2 KINGS 12:3 But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

2 KINGS 12:4 And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the dedicated things that is brought into the house of the LORD, even the money of every one that passeth the account, the money that every man is set at, and all the money that cometh into any man's heart to bring into the house of the LORD,

2 KINGS 12:5 Let the priests take it to them, every man of his acquaintance: and let them repair the breaches of the house, wheresoever any breach shall be found.

2 KINGS 12:6 But it was so, that in the three and twentieth year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house.

2 KINGS 12:7 Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and the other priests, and said unto them, Why repair ye not the breaches of the house? Now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.

2 KINGS 12:8 And the priests consented to receive no more money of the people, neither to repair the breaches of the house.

2 KINGS 12:9 But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one cometh into the house of the LORD: and the priests that kept the door put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the LORD.

2 KINGS 12:10 And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king's scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags, and told the money that was found in the house of the LORD.

2 KINGS 12:11 And they gave the money, being told, into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the LORD: and they laid it out to the carpenters and builders, that wrought upon the house of the LORD.

2 KINGS 12:12 And to masons, and hewers of stone, and to buy timber and hewed stone to repair the breaches of the house of the LORD, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.

2 KINGS 12:13 Howbeit there were not made for the house of the LORD bowls of silver, snuffers, basons, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of the LORD.

2 KINGS 12:14 But they gave that to the workmen, and repaired therewith the house of the LORD.

2 KINGS 12:15 Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to be bestowed on workmen: for they dealt faithfully.

2 KINGS 12:16 The trespass money and sin money was not brought into the house of the LORD: it was the priests'.

2 KINGS 12:17 Then Hazael king of Syria went up, and fought against Gath, and took it: and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.

2 KINGS 12:18 And Jehoash king of Judah took all the hallowed things that Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram, and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own hallowed things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and in the king's house, and sent it to Hazael king of Syria: and he went away from Jerusalem.

2 KINGS 12:19 And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

2 KINGS 12:20 And his servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and slew Joash in the house of Millo, which goeth down to Silla.

2 KINGS 12:21 For Jozachar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, smote him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amaziah his son reigned in his stead.

BIBLE CONCORDANCE DICTIONARY Vine's Expository Dictionary Of New Testament Words
THE LOVE OF MONEY:

Strong's Number: 5365 Greek: philarguria
from phileo, "to love," and arguros, "silver," occurs in 1 Tim. 6:10 (cp. philarguros, "covetous, avaricious"). Trench contrasts this with pleonexia, "covetousness." See under COVET, COVETOUSNESS.

* * * * BIBLE STUDY NOTES * * * *
Money matters are not "spiritual" matters.
- Jesus tied our ability to handle spiritual things with our ability to handle money...
Luke 16:11 "So, if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?"

-The principal brought forth in the Scriptures is that the love of money is "the root of all evil" (1 Tim 6:9,10) -- not money itself... but lusting in the love of money, pride, greed wanting riches leads to an evil heart. Another word for this is COVETOUSNESS which in the 10th commandments of the Ten Commandment is forbidden by God.

- In other words, money is not to rule us -- Christ is to rule us -- but how we handle our money will reveal our priorities and our faithfulness in what God gives us. We must learn to put Jesus in the center of all money making decisions by praying over every situation and allow the direction of the Holy Spirit to guide our decisions.
