Uranus Uranus is the seventh closest planet to the Sun and the third largest planet in the solar system. Uranus is composed primarily of rock and ice. Another gas planet, Uranus also has rings, but faint. Voyager 2 discovered ten small moons in addition to the five larger ones already known. The planet has twenty named moons, in all. Uranus is occasionally visible with the unaided eye and easy to spot with a telescope or binoculars if you know exactly where to look.
